New Fuel tank for 1966 fairlane for return line

Hello. I have a 482 dual 4 in my 66 fairlane. Original tank has dent in bottom so I had a rad. Shop coat tank with some product that I think was baked on long time ago.I been thinking about running a return line system with reg. From what I've read here, I should start with a new tank and get a bung welded in for a fitting for the return  line. There seems to be a few different tanks available. Looking  for info on which tanks are good and which ones to stay away from? This is street driven car only. Also need info on fuel log and reg. how to make and set up right. I have 3/8 line from tank to a mellings pump. Fuel  filter should be between pump and fuel log,is that correct? And reg. should be after fuel log and then return line? What kind  of fuel line should I use from pump to fuel log and after log? And where do I to put a fuel pressure guage? I've never done this before. Thanks!

Fuel Safe makes a 22 gal tank for 67 Mustang, may fit a fairlane. They will install whatever you want. Expensive, $650.00 up but a good safety addition.
I have it in a Mustang, no issues.

Melvin's Classic Ford parts offers a reproduction tank with the correct length filler neck.  The Spectra 43A or 43B are too short to be a direct fit, but they can be made to work.

RobbMc offers a sending unit with a large outlet and a return built in.  It can be ordered with a variety of fitting options to connect to your lines.

Yes, easiest to start with clean/dry tank if you want to weld on it.  A simple 1/2" NPT fitting would be good for the return line up in the front top corner somewhere.  It would be best to get a sump welded to the bottom rear for the supply line.  Using the sending unit line is marginal and it "may" run dry if you run the tank low enough and jump on the throttle hard.  The bottom rear is the best bet.

I suppose you plan on still using a mech pump?  Is there one that supplies enough to use a return line?

I’m also going to run a new fuel system. I called Aeromotive about their drop in tanks that have a in tank pump and returns, they don’t list one for my ‘66 Fairlane but said they might make one. They order new tanks and modify them. They do make them for mustangs. They said they are good to 800hp ( I think). You might give them a call.

Aeromotive made an in-tank EFI setup for me earlier this year.

Tanks Inc. did mine for the mustang with return.
Works great.

Aeromotive made an in-tank EFI setup for me earlier this year.

They did for a Fairlane? Did you have to send them a tank? Apr. cost? HP range? Thanks

I am building my fuel system for my 66 fairlane atm my set up may not be what your looking for. I have a custom tank made bigger then stock but not by much i am using Areomotive a1000 brushless external pump -10 an out and -8 an return lines and i used the areomotive duel feed carb regulator good for over 1000hp na. I am also running twin 4's 4160 style 725cfm carbs. I wanted everything hidden as much as it can be. I did not want a tank sump pick up to be seen from the back of the car. My fuel lines will also be running on the right hand side of the car as i have the fuel regulator mounted up near the carbs on the right hand side of the intake. I used PTFE type braided hose it is good for almost any fluid and it is smaller then older style rubber type hose 5/8 -10 is around 16mm. I should have some pic's soon to post in my build thread. I am still waiting on some parts and fab before i can finish it. I will say looking back now i would go intank pump is the way to go you can run out of space faster then you think how i have done my set up.

Why the compulsion to build in a return line? Is it an EFI application?
