They denied approval citing this "new" engine would increase the cost of racing and cause the Mopar people to dehydrate from too many tears...

There, I fixed it for you  ;D ;D

I know there are few, if any hot boat fans here on this site but an interesting footnote to this 429 topic and the mention of NHRA banning the BBF from Pro competition is the IHBA top speed record set by a fellow named Johnny Heidemann. He ran a TAF [top alcohol flat] named "Nightmare" running a Hemi Ford [Boss-429] based engine. Blown/injected on alcohol competing against a sea of Mopar and BBC powered boats. The others were running trap speeds in the 166-169 range, Heidemann lays down a 179+ mph, 10 mph faster than all the others. He backed it up with a 175+ pass to set the top speed record for the class that still stands today.

what about the 429 thunder-jet.my uncle was going to build one of these a while back but he got sick and passed away before he could build it.what would be the difference in these.i dont know nothing about 429s but the thunder-jet has canted valves.

the "Thunderjet" is just the base 429 used in several cars, usually a Thunderbird.  All 429/460s use canted valves.  The early heads - 68,69, maybe 70?- used screw in studs.  After that, bolt down units same as other engines.  429/460s use same rocker arms as the 351C and the same distributor.

Echo on the 4.84 bore spacing BS from NHRA.
