X-Plan question
« on: January 06, 2020, 10:30:21 AM »
Just wondering out loud - we're going to talk to the fleet manager at the local Ford dealer tomorrow about a truck.  We would like to get a 2020 F-350 DRW 7.3L gas 4x2 with a decent interior.  These type of trucks do not exist in Texas - literally.  Everything within 150 miles either 2019 or 2020 is diesel and 4x4.  There is one 202 XTS optioned truck (also diesel/4x4) on the local lot and the rest are either stripper diesels with vinyl or XLT, Lariat or King Ranch.  Even Houston doesn't have a 4x2 gas, and Mack has line 300 vehicles on the lot.  Same with Southwest Ford in Weatherford, another big dealer.  These things are way expensive, Build & Price is coming in between $48,500~53,000 depending on options picked.  Fleet guy says - and I concur - that Build & Price is pretty lame about really doing a decent config.  That's seems to be back up by the 2020 Super Duty Ordering Guide I downloaded.  It's also backed up by looking at window stickers and noting that pricing on things like "Ultimate tow" and even the diesel option carry different pricing than Build & Price.  Just curious if begging for an "X-Plan" number is worth anything.  Wife, who has worked for big Ford dealers in the past, says likely not as it all has to do with floor plan, volume, discounts for that dealer, etc. We're just trying to get numbers together right now to see if we can even make it happen.   Have to give up the new 2019 Escape Titanium to do it, so it'll be kinda painful.  But mucho better for pulling that big trailer.  Thanks for any insight.

Those must be base 4x2, SRW prices, way different than B&P - 4x2, 8' bed, DRW, Crew cab, no options configured:

F-350 XLT
Starting At $45,970
F-350 XLT
XL basic features plus these and more:
BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Tow
Lane-Keeping Alert
Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
SYNC® 3
etc

The above is what is listed for super duty. If you have searched truck and have a specific one in mind the dealers ship and vin. I might be able to find it through a search. Anyone with access to generate an plan pin will have this same a cess as long as they have their partner code, I'm doing g nothing special. Send me a PM if you would like.

Ah, so this has to do with dealer stock.  Well, that won't work because no dealer stocks what we need/want.  The info is much appreciated.

Incorrect, unrelated related to dealer stock. If you had a vin of a vehicle you found at a given dealer I could tell you exactly what the xplan price is by looking through fords too and matching the vin. Xplan is different depending on vehicle and model. If you found one that is close to what you looking for I could give you the xplan price for that vehicle to give you a better idea. I don’t think they have a tool that will let you build a vehicle and see what the xplan would be, but I could be wrong about that.

The info I provided was fords general table for super duty in their xplan tool.

Thanks very much for the clarification.  There is a black one on the local lot that is an STX package so "close" if you look past the diesel and 4x4 parts.  EDIT - not listed on dealer's web.  About the only 2020 with any details - 1FT8W3DT9LEC191512020 crew diesel XLT.  $63706 as listed on the web

13 2020s, only 3 have details and only one of those is a DRW.

Other close dealer has only 4 2020s and one 350 XLT DRW - 1FT8W3DT9LEC19151 - 67420 MSRP

LOL - we confirmed two things last night

1) We're looking at $53K
2) there are zero gas 4x2 XLT F-350 DRW trucks at dealers in the US.  So if I place the order we'll have a true one of one when it comes in.  ;D  Be worth millions at auction some day, huh?

It seems that most dealers tend to order up the more profitable and expensive upscale models to put on their lots. Since most people looking at new vehicles usually want to drive their new purchase off the lot right away, they often "settle" for more truck than they really want, need, or are hoping to spend. When I went to buy a new Ranger for 2010, it seemed that no dealer even a 100 miles away had what I was looking for, so I factory ordered my truck. The salesman looked thru inventory all over Western Canada, some were close in model and equipment, but since I tend to keep my vehicles long term, I wanted exactly the truck that I could not find, so I ordered it. Yeah, it was a long 6 weeks before my truck arrived, but since its been 10 years now, 6 weeks was not really that long! And my F350 Dually was also factory ordered  by a racing buddy, who seems to have wanted pretty much the exact same truck that I would have ordered myself. Good thing, as I have never seen another 2WD, V10 5 speed manual, long box Super Cab Dually XLT. If you plan to keep the truck long term, I would just order one to your specs.

Thanks for the above.  We made a deal to take the truck at dealer invoice since they won;t have to stock it.  They'll make more money on the trade-in since it's a 2019 Escape Titanium loaded with only 6K miles.  We're going to dump 5 figure down payment on it anyway, and I get exactly what I want LOL.  Basically a XLT Premium DRW with a couple of extras.  Just a little over 50K.

Anybody want to buy a 1993 F350 DRW with only 106K on it?  ;D

Yep!  I'd rather have the truck that some anonymous investment in a fund.  Our race trailer has a bath package and is tagged as an RV, so having a nice puller will let us go places we might not have been able to go in the past.
