I thought I'd give you an update, especially since its a wild one
Here's timeline
Mid Dec - injury, shoulder separation and bicep tear
Mid Jan - end of Feb - Physical therapy and not getting anywhere
1 Mar - MRI
5 Mar - Doctor's visit saying nothing wrong despite ridiculous shoulder pain, couldn't unzip my own fly, take off my flight suit, etc.
So I spent 2 hours with the doc as he did specific moves and yanks on my shoulder with zero pain
Then he asked me to point to the pain and try to recreate it, I arched my back like stretching when your back hurts and raised my arm and BAM, he finally saw me buckle in pain
Believe it or not, a good thing, because it was so bad, but using normal "shoulder" tests he couldn't find anything, because it wasn't really the shoulder
Back to the MRI pics, the bicep IS torn (as we knew) and for the most part the tendon is gone, except for a little strand that is trying hard to do its job. In the right position, it grabs and tries to tear itself apart. We can see the strand on the MRI but its so faint its hard to see
So he goes at me again, digging in with his fingers to to the slot into the bone where this strand should be and WHAM, I am down to my knees again. Its not my shoulder, but that strand where it enters the shoulder
So he takes the cortisone, which usually is a painless shot stuck into my rotator cuff, and we stick the needle right into the painful area expecting a standard shot with a little discomfort, well it was certainly NOT a little pain. If this 230 pounder was going to cry, it was then, it hurt so bad I thought I was going out. Matter of fact, I tensed up and he said, if you don't relax we are going to lose this needle!
So in the end here are the options, the bottom line is, I need to get this strand unhooked, a common fix for a long head bicep rupture. However almost always its a clean tear so its not a big deal.
1 - Tear it completely off
myself, by just overusing my bicep
2 - Scope it and cut it, which may be hard to find using the scope because its such a small strand
3 - Cut it open old school and cut the strand
Well, I decided yesterday to try curtain number 1 for a week and see what it does. LOL
Last night the man's man (maybe dumb-ass, you call it) started my own healing. Negative curls with a 55 lb dumbbell, sets of isolation curls with a 45 pounder, swinging arm throws with a 75 lb kettle weight, and to top it off I had a full cooler with ice last night and swung it around in the driveway before I brought it in like some crazy shot putter LOL
Today I feel real GOOD! Now I am loaded with Cortisone, but screw it, the doc said that my shoulder itself is strong and worst case it wont tear, but I cant do any damage. If I can get it to let loose, I don't have to go under the knife

A little crazy, but on the offense now which feels much better than sitting around in pain
