Change in Car taste

Charger 66-67 is a car i thought was kind of uggly before. I have known
of one that was in the same spot in a truck garage for the last 40 years,
and heard rumors of it beeing sold. Today at dinner wife looked out of kitchen
window -Look at that whats that? There i saw it in the intersection with a new
bright red paintjob and chrome reflecting the late evning sun, taillights glowing
from one rear corner to the other when it drowe away with a healty exhaust rumble
Oh my god it was so beautyful. I have a hard time admitting i liked a 66-67 charger
that much

Not sure about Dodge, but I know a lot of Ford guys that are closet Mopar fans LOL.  I'd not turn down a 340 Dart for sure.

My father inspect old cars for a special insurance, that's where the
Charger was going last night. Father tried to call me but i did not answer
when i had dinner It was the car from the truck garage and it
had got a really nice restoration was a low milage car to begin with.

My fav mopar always was a '66 Coronet & the '69 Road Runner. Always thought the '62 Plymies were horrible as well as the '62 Fairlanes, but I 'm kinda liking them these days. As for the Marlin? Yuk. But I will take a Rebel Machine any day.

Back in the late 60's my step Dad owned a fast food restraunt and one of the employee's Joe (senior in HS ) bought a brand new 69 Roadrunner 383 Magnum for 2795.00 and to get rid of me and my brother for a while he would send us out with Joe to pickup up cups or something stupid in a storage center for the store in Joe's new car , man that thing would pop the ashtray out hitting second gear and then his knuckle would close the ash tray hitting third gear , those were the days

The 66 Charger i think is more or less a fastback version of the Coronet?
62 plymouth is one of those car that one time made me almost throw up
but today i kind of like them. But the uglies car of them all must be 62 Dart
440, it looks like they took a smaller car and tried to stretch it over a bigger one
Hard to belive it is same brand and same designer as late 50s mopars. As my son
says, I think Exner Wanted to be fired and desinged the first Valiants when
that did not work, he went all in and designed the Dart 440
Im not that brand specific It just happened that i had only Owned Fords and i like them
I almost bought a 58 Newyorker one time in the 80s but when i came back with the money the next
day it was sold still kiks my self for not going back the same night and bought it 392 Hemi and all
Did the minimal body work on it (4 hours if i remember)  for the new owner

Many years back, I had a eye on a 66 Belvedere.  Kinda ex drag car, was out of my price range so I passed on it.   I bought my '69 F100 in 1988, and shortly after a buddy offered me a '68 Road runner 440/4spd.  It was a running project car.  I wanted it bad, but again beyond my price range.  Few years later it shows up at the cruising scene with a buddy from HS driving it.  I asked to drive it, he said no, but did take me for a spin.  Wow, that thing was badazz.  At least for this youngster at the time.

Still like my full size cars........(if that's not pretty evident)....

Buddy still has his '67 GTO convertible 400/4spd he had since HS.

Same here. I would love to have a '63 Tempest. Seems like FE guys and Pontiac guys tend to cross paths. Maybe its the allure of building something a bit unique?

I allways had a good eye for Pontiac its like a Chevy they
finished Closest i came i owned a 455 engine with a rod
nock i got for free from the local GM dealer. Though of building
it for a hotrod but a friend bought a Firebird with out engine
and made me an offer i could not refuse

It must come with age. Or maturity, heh. Those Chargers look good to me now. And pre-1964 Fords/Mercs are beautiful. I don't know why I couldn't see that when I was younger.

Just out of high school, I had a 66 Fairlane with a 390 and C6, and my cousin had a 66 GTO with a 400 (after the 389 was gone) and a 3-speed of all things. Seems like we raced a thousand times as we built those cars up, and it hooked me on the old Pontiacs, too.

Just quietly, I’m also a closet Mopar fan. I first saw an engineering line cut away drawing of a ‘63 Dodge max wedge car in an early ‘80s Car Craft magazine, and it blew my mind. I never knew such cars existed, let alone come that way from the factory. Years later, I now own this:



I’ve also had a soft spot for Pontiacs for a long time. I’ve owned a ‘65 Bonneville and a ‘66 GP, but always wanted either a ‘62 Catalina or a ‘65 GTO.

Friend bought a very stock, original '61? tempest.  4 banger/automatic.  Oh lord was that thing sssslllooowwwwww.  Near a death trap in traffic.  Had the little shift handle on the dash with D N R.  It was neat, but no where near enough power.  That 4 cylinder was a funny thing, being just a 1/2 a V8 literally.  If you only looked at the passenger side of the engine compartment, it would almost pass for a 326  .....til you realized the whole drivers side of the engine was missing.

I like the '66-'67  Chargers.  And you can sleep in them if you aren't crazy tall!  They have a very long cargo area with the rear seats folded down. The original SUV?

I would love to have a 69 Dart GTS. A teacher at my high school had one and she would race it on weekends. A 66 or 67 Charger is a interesting car. I have driven a couple in the past.(only a few miles each) The biggest fast back car I have owned was a 68 Fairlane. But it was not a muscle car with that little 302 2V.
But one of the odder cars I had was a 864 Galixie XL 4 door hard top. One evening I was the driver for the group I was running with, I went over to a buddies house to pick up several people, one of the less then brightest opened the passengers side front door, folded the bucket seat down and proceeded to climb in to the back seat then complained how hard the back seat was to get in to. I gave him he look and told him that next time he should use the back door. I kind of wish I still had that cruiser.

My dad was a loan guy way back in the day, that meant he was also a part time repo man, anything from tv's to furniture, to you guessed it cars.

We had a 69 Grand Prix type S I think it was, mean car, never forget him taking the whole family (6) up to the lake in the grand prix doing 110 down the 2 lane highway.

Flip a 69 gto image vertical and yes it literally is shaped like a rocket.

As Im getting older Im liking the bigger cars wether its a mopar, ford, mercury. But My dad had a 64 GTO that he bought brand new and I had a 64 Lemans as my daily driver for 14 years so needless to say I have a soft spot for them.

I had a white '73 Grand-Am 400 auto. My sister was looking for a car and we went for a test drive in it.  I mashed it from a dead stop spinning the tires for what seemed forever and then it banged 2nd chirping the tires and that was it. I told her you're not buying this car.
I bought it. While not really fast (15.9s) it was a great handling & driving car. All my buddies called it the egg, as it kind of looked like one.

It is somewhat strange, In this onehorse town i live in. About 15000
in the whole county about 5000 in the central comunity. There have been
a lot of somewhat rare cars. Several Crown Victoria skyliners atleast five, thats
about 10 percent of the whole production.
Several Shelby Mustangs both 350 and 500s,  atleast two 59 Ford retractabels,
Hemi Cuda,  Hemi Charger,  a couple of 50s Chrysler 300s, Jensen interceptor FF
Lotus Cortinas,  Studebaker Golden Hawks,  this 66 Charger,  a 68 Baracuda Convertibel
68 Baracuda 340 s Coupe, 62 Chevy bubbeltop 409....... what i remember now

I do have a soft spot for the Studebaker Golden Hawk.  My dad was involved with Studebaker Packard in the 1950's.  He also helped set up the infrastructure for importing Mercedes Benz cars into the U.S. through Studebaker Packard.  So you could say he was involved with 300 SL's too.  (I'd have to rub a few too many pennies together to afford one of those, and it would be hard to say I've "grown" into liking them!!)

I have always liked the Golden Hawk, the first Pony/muscle car 10 years to early. One with packard engine would be nice. Or why not a 53
Champion Coupe with a FE . They would benefit from getting the winshield, just the windshield chopped a couple of inches since im not that fellow in a brown hat with a pipe that was in the car ads from 1929 to the late 60s .The 300 SL is also one of my favourites, but even if i rub my pennies till they caught fire i can afford one I saw pictures of a dragster late 50s early 60s with a 300 SL engine

Any of the early 60s full-size Pontiacs are great looking cars, and I like the mid 60s as big long range cruisers.  61 Catalina is such a great car, up there with a 61 Starliner

Well since we are all prancing out of the closet.... I did used to own a 70 Coronet... a $500 daily driver... had the choice of it or a $500 black 65 dual quad Riviera... I think I made a mistake but at the time driving 20 miles each way to work the Riv would have drank too much of that expensive 60 cents a gallon gas.

Speaking of Rivieras, there was a guy in the 70s importing a boat tail
Riviera to Sweden full on lowrider with a real impressive metalflake
paint job. Swivel seats an tv antenna. It was in all the Swedish car magazines well know to all
car guys. One day when i was walking through the village it drove
past me from behind just a couple of feet away...Holy mother of..
What is it doing here? who have bought it? newer saw it again asked
around no one knew who had bought it.Somebody said he saw it cruising
through town one night with a local thief that had moved south as
a driver. Turned out the local thief had
stolen it and hide it at his uncles place that lived in my village. Did not take
long for the owner to find out where it was and who had stolen it
not so smart to steal the most
known car in Sweden at the time and drive it through the country
