FE in the winner circle
« on: September 24, 2019, 10:36:50 AM »
Went to the last race of the season @ Spokane County Raceway, and maybe forever if the track closes (I hope not)... There was a Duke's car club race and I entered an all 9 second bracket. Made it to the finals and won it all (final round pair in winners circle picture). Car was working great, stopped the big wheelies so no damage, and still hooking up good, never turned a wrench or touched the clutch. That is a (highly) modified Jay Brown adapter for HR heads, with a non-FORD intake on top...

Nice! Non-Ford intake? Gonna keep us guessing?

Btw, that is the driest, cleanest and sharpest underhood look to a racer than I've seen in awhile.

I agree. Seeing a clean engine compartment is a beautiful sight, and something you often see on winners cars.

Congrats, Thor! That's a great way to end the season. The launch looks perfect...a good hook without going star gazing. What did you do to tame the wheelies, just adjust launch RPM?

Based on quick internet search, I believe its a Higgins intake manifold?

Attaboy Thor!  Too bad that ugly green lump blocked part of your car in the one picture  ;D  Glad to see the intake adapter and intake combination is working for you.

Congrats Thor! Quite the accomplishment! Especially with a 4 speed. Sweet looking Cougar! I remember the thread when you rolled out the Poncho intake. I new it was gonna be a killer.

Still running a 10.5 tire?

Yeah it is a Poncho intake, not a 351C based intake. I have Blue thunder high riser heads, so have a little more room to play with the adapter, lots of machining on both. I am still running 10.5 tires, they are a W though. It is about as big as I can go the way it is. I narrowed the rear a bit and "mini tubbed" it. I still have the rear seat and full interior though. The wheels are 12" wide.

On getting rid of the big wheelies it is kind of weird, but makes sense I guess... I changed the cam and got rid of too much torque! Went with more duration and changed the rpm band. Kind of slowed it down a tick originally, but I was running it the same to begin with. I have been launching it higher and higher and turning more rpm now and it has been going quicker and a little more MPH in similar air. And at the same time not so violent off the line.

You guys know that Nova in Spanish means "Doesn't go"...

Glad you came out on top Thor.  Beautiful car and lovely engine compartment!
