Tasca Ford KR-8 Mustang.....
« on: June 20, 2019, 10:38:15 AM »
Picture here of the supposed Loyd Ruby Ford GT-40 427 Tunnel Port engine that Ford swapped into Tasca's KR-8 1967 Mustang. Looks like those Ford only center squirt Holley carbs.
Story goes that Ford wanted to inspect Tasca's "improved" 428 and ol' Bob said he needed an engine to drive it back home with!
Bet that was a wild drive back!

That's SO bitchin! 8) Tom, after we were at your place a couple weeks ago, I told the story about the first time I met you back about 30 years ago, and you pulling those tunnel port heads out from under your workbench, and me sh*tting a brick. She just rolled her eyes, and gave me the "so what" look. ::) Wimmen! ;D

sorry, I wasn't very clear, that was actually directed at TomP. I posted the "bitchin" comment first, then went in and added that comment later, it wasn't very clear, sorry for the confusion.

   Larry,
You are correct about the prototype Holley carbs. Those ( done by the late Harold Droste) feature his first version of the not yet made center squirter carb. The unique "bracket" for the air cleaner stud indicates that. Hand made and somewhat crude , they were replaced by the "bar" version that was refined a bit more and was used on "production" 660 center squirters when they were released to the public at a later date. The aluminum Tunnel Port heads are also very apparent.

Look at that big Positive cable on the starter solenoid . Ford should have made about 100 Tunnel port Mustangs to make legal in NHRA Stock

Those carbs are cool, would they be an SK# or did Holley not do that?
Looks like aluminum water pump too.

Those were my Tunnel Ports George refers to, I had two sets.

Harold Droste referred to those center squirters as '652s'. The set I got from Triple E had been used on a GT 40 that was a test car before the LeMans race. Got the entire Tunnel Port upper end and put it on Brother Lon's '67 427 car. It was great fun to take it out to Telway on the South west corner of Telegraph and Grand River.

Harold made them in 850,720,652,600,and 440 cfm . "His" carbs all carry signature like modifications and serial numbers.  I have and have had many of his designs. Harold also did many of the "new" designs like the 428CJ carb and most all of the others.
Yes prototype carbs he made for Ford (EEE) would "usually" have an SK number tag on them but he also did work for the Autolite division where XF numbers were used. I have a few of them also.

I have seen the specs on the 652 CFM carbs and they list venturi size as 1 5/16 X 1/3/8 and I assume 1 11/16 throttle plate.
The Holley 4224 660 CFM carbs had same venture as the 600 carbs with the larger 1 11/16 throttle plate.
Was it a larger booster design that cut CFM to 652?

Harold made them out of the 2804/2805 carb.  He also did them off of the 3255 and 3557 and 1849 and some obscure others. He was a brilliant carb guy.

That has the large cable because it's a trunk mounted battery.

I see a vacuum can under the right side hood hinge.Typical 67 location for tilt away steering.I also see a hood with the braces cut up and sound deadener on the underside..Sound deadener on the hood is not a Mustang thing....

Well, that or AC on the canister. The deadner started in '69.  The tunnel port was easy to see because of the uprights for the intake manifold bolts.
I would love to have driven that one.
