Yes is true all are china rods. Where the difference comes in some are forged and machined in china while sone are forged in china and machined here. Also how involve the manufacturer is in QC'ing what the china factory is doing.

You are likely right any of the above be fine forxwhat taking about here, but left by itself the chinise can make some bad stuff, remember CAT?

Comes down to trust and experience. Dennis was honest and that why took a gamble.

I'd always heard that Chinese rods are shorter and have slanted holes. Maybe I'm wrong?

I'm not into Chinese "rod". I can't confirm that. However, the ports aren't sideways as I'd always been told.  :o :o :o :o

I have used and sold literally hundreds of sets of Scat rods with very, very few issues of any sort.

I think a set or two had issues when the build/engine was eventually upgraded in power and application to a point where the originally specified parts would not have been appropriate any longer.  More cam, more compression, more RPM but leaving the original street racer type bottom end.

That noted, I have had a few sets of customer supplied Eagle rods and they seem to have done just fine.

The Molnar stuff looks very, very nice for the money, and the lighter weight saves some Mallory in balancing - offsetting the extra cost a bit.  I should be using these in more kits but simply have not made the change yet.

Chinese rods are mostly ( except Molnar and Compstar) a product of reverse engineering the "old standby" Carrillo rod. The Chinese are good at that but to their fault "most" have never seen an American V8 in person , so they have NO IDEA of what they are making or why it's made the way it is. Taiwan has been famous for this capability for many decades in many other product lines. As American "buyers" become more discriminating , their quality improves.
Thankfully the design is overkill in most applications and the rods don't fail , IF the machining is correct.
Just my 2 cents on the subject.

I bought a set of Eagle 6.700 BBC rods for my tunnel port around '93 or '94. I needed to narrow them a small amount to fit on a NASCAR crank.
I ended up taking them to Dick Landy's shop and he took one look at them and almost kicked me out. He said they were going to break and he didn't want to work on them.
Well he gave in and cut them down. I deburred them and rounded all the edges and corners when I got them back and they were still in the motor when I sold it about 10yrs later.
Shifted it at 7000 all the time without any problems.
