I threatened to replace it with a MEL several years ago but the 352 has been so dependable I promised it an overdrive this year.

I plan to replace my 428 with a stroked 427.  The plan is to run just as fast, but with less rpm, less gear, and less stall.

Which one?  My 427 in my Galaxie , to replace the old one with a new Tunnel Port version. Its currently sorta on track for Beaver Springs.  The 56 f 100, may be change out the BJ/BK twin carbs for a set of BC/BDs that I have setting on the shelf.

One step warmer plug
Better gasket matched intake/heads, found some 1/16" gasket lips in there I did not like
Properly aligned valvetrain, jacked the rocker arms up .25", new pushrods
Valve cover oil leak
Version 2.0 of adaptor spacer for Holley twins on Edelbrock intake, preserving the dual plane all the way up to the carbs, delete the 4 hole and reduce the adaptor angle
Set of Quick Fuel 600's so I can see how another set behaves and swap the BJ/BK's in and out
PCV valve
Air filters to let it breath better
Reduce the stall on converter from 3100 to 2700/2800

The thing winds out really well albeit a bit lean, need more bottom end.

Thanks

Due to a broken exhaust valve my 483 was shut down in September.  I repaired the P block the engine was built on but will be going with a NOS 71 427 service block for the next go ‘round
Strongly considering going sold roller for this iteration. Should be able to re-use the Scat forged 4.25 stroke crank and the H beam rods.

An oil change?   That's about it for the wagon.  The clutch is getting a quick service, might split the transmission and recheck things.  Beyond that, Nadda, nuthin.

The '65 Galaxies 390 will get pulled to fix the rear main seal and leaking dipstick. Might consider a cam/lifter change while it's out also.

The '70 F350, with the 390 that I got off of Blair, will get some carb work, but ultimately will get pulled to put in a 445 stroker that I put together for better pulling power. Then the BP 390 will likely get put in the Galaxie and I'll just shelf the engine that's in it now.

As for the Mustang, it'll get ran through the Reunion, then get pulled so I can do some major changes to the car. The biggest being a hole cut in the hood to clear the carburetors for the replacement engine. Not sure what I'll do with the all iron 427 sideoiler then. Guess I'll have to "find" something to put it in after a refresh and some new bearings.

I'm going to make sure the transmission/shifter is in fine working order.  I'm really tired of screwing it up on the first pass!  And the sad fact is, it is totally my stupidity, not the car.

Garry, let me think it over for a while...a long while ;D

I'll probably put it on a stand where it can be started occasionaly, and keep it for whenever I want to put it back in. Except for various internal parts, I've had this engine together for the last 20+ years.

Marc, that was my original intention, to build and race my '58 2dr wagon. I've had to take a reality check though, because it would require MAJOR upgrades and starting from scratch to do it, meaning lots of money. Realistically, it would take me several years to do that, and all my spare change. Sooo, plans changed. I've already thinned out the herd by 3 vehicles, with more to go, and the wagon will get sold.

Doug did you catch the episode on MT TV where Pure Vision did a 57 2dr ranch wagon? The car was awesome...….. Only took 2 yrs, My wife wondered how much it took to do it. I told her 100,000 more or less.

For my street Fairlane, replacing the Victor/HP1000 with an EFI Victor and sequential port injection.  A bonus would be new REF headers to match the BP Pro Port exhaust.

The price tag was WELL north of 100k. There was 50k plus in engine and transmission. (Base model Boss 9 429 or 460 are 23k and the wagon didn't have a base model 460 Boss 9 in it).

That is a cool car. Personally I like the Pure Vision guys. First because they actually do some neat Ford stuff and aren't just spitting out another Nova or Chevelle, and secondly I like there subtle build details. The Fairlaine they did a few years ago with the Ed Pink SOHC in it was another freat example I think. It looks like it COULD have been a prototype car back in the day. The wagon build was very much in the same theme. I'm not a fan of making old stuff look new. The reason I like that stuff is exactly BECAUSE it's NOT new.

Garry, I didn't see it, but just checked out several videos and pictures of it. Very cool car! While mine is pretty straight, and the interior is actually in really nice shape, it does need some typical rust repair in the quarters and front fenders. At one point I had most of the exterior trim and chrome in NOS, but sold most of that off. I still have a few pieces though. I may save it for something to work on in retirement. You don't see '58 2dr Del Rio Wagons every day!

Thanks, It is coming along Great, I had to bore out the one piece timing gear because the stub cam has two different shafts sizes, then make a hard washer for the idler bolt that is going to run the distributor, the heads are on so it is starting to look like something. Leny Mason

Since this seems to be the Comet section...mine is to get my 427 into my '65 Cyclone in 2019.

The Econoline axle install is almost done, now motor mounts and cage are next.

To get the 427 back and running in the 68 after the car spent too many years on the rotisserie.

Wow that method of posting a picture certainly didn't work out........
