9 inch differential
« on: October 07, 2012, 03:26:54 PM »
Long time since i worked on a rear end so
i dont remember. In a 9 inch rearend can you
replace a 2.72-2.82 or around there that i have
with a 4.10 -4.56 or do i have to replace the
differental(Ford Factory LSD) .I remember you have to do it
on brand x differentials.
And who makes high quality streetgears today
i rather pay more and get something thats last
than cheap junk thats start howling like a horny dog

I've run anything from 2.75s to 4.30s in the same carrier, so I think you can use any ratio.  I would recommend either Richmond or Motive Gear for the gear manufacturer.

Sure it can, for a while.  I ran a clutch type in my 489 for years.  As long as tire sizes are the same, you arent doing a lot of burnout box action where one tire may catch traction quickly, and assuming you run a good limited slip additive, they do real well.

Once one of those variables are tweaked, it gets ugly quick.

There are some that have a big hole drilled in the clutch hat, they can crack over time, but generally on the street they all do fine
