WTB, factory pentroofs with brake booster relief
« on: September 12, 2019, 09:28:51 PM »
Looking for a very nice pair of the 65,66? steel covers with the large relief for a brake booster or mc. Chrome preferred but will consider all finishes. If there is an aftermarket version with the same size relief please point the way, ( I have not seen them).

Thanks much,
JB

Pretty sure Branda repops the covers you are looking for.

Thanks guys but there is a factory cover with a more significant relief on one side. I need it to enable the installation of Wilwood tandem mc in my ‘67 Fairlane. I have some nice cast Holman Moody covers currently but they are wide and won’t allow that mc to fit even with shimming.
The CoBranda chrome ones have less of a relief than stock, they are kinda rounded. The cast ones do help with booster conflicts due to a rib being removed but I need the relief to be the whole side, top to bottom. I have a beat set of the factory covers here that I’m after. I’ll post a pic later.

I'll get some pictures later today. Should I take it that you want covers without lettering?
I've got quite a few sets of the Mercury Pentroofs, but only a couple sets each of the blank top and marine.

Stamped Pentroof covers I have never seen with any relief for a master. The cast covers are generally with and without about five inches of the outer fin on the driver's side. My shelby covers are relieved for booster/master cleances.

Richard, I was hoping that the resident expert and collector of FE vc would weigh in. I am hoping for non lettered but am open to anything with the large relief. I’m starting to think they are Cobra pieces but somewhere along the way they caught Interceptor decals.

Thanks much,

JB I could only find one set of the non-Mercury pentroofs with the PB relief but 8 sets of the Merc's 5 of which are the 1966 with the relief. If I can find the other set of non Merc's I'll sell the 2nd. I was doing woodwork in my shop so took a quick look. I've got all of my stamped steel covers on a shelf 9 ft. up  so I'll have to take a ladder and go thru the stacks of VC's. The Chrome pentroofs don't have the PB relief.
As I mentioned earlier, pictures later today.

OK after cutting and splitting a full cord of Myrtle Wood (one of the hardest of North American Hardwoods) this afternoon. I finally got some pictures. The first is exactly what you want  the other sets are FT VC's that come close. Pentroof's are 5" tall and the FT's are 4.5" tall so if you are using end stands they might not work. but end clearance to a PB booster would be OK.
Right click # 3 and 4 to see the full image.

JB I have some finned Shelby valve covers that someone notched for clearance. Perhaps they might work

Richard, the taller ones are what I have. Yours have more “patina” than the set here. I’m shopping for a very nice set. Thanks much for the efforts to dig those out. What is their original application?
