When I was a little kid in the mid 1960s, I lived with my family in an apartment complex with a big parking lot.  The next door neighbor had one of those cars.  We used to get all the adults to park the cars off to one side so we could play baseball in the parking lot.  We always had my neighbor park his car near home plate.  We referred to his car as "the grandstands", and about six of us would sit up on the fins when our team was up to bat, watching the action.  I remember that thing took a nasty foul ball once, right in the door.  Didn't even dent it  ;D

Heo, gorgeous '60 Chevy!  Not sure what you mean by the points going dead.  Did the cam follower on the points wear and close the gap so the engine quit?  In that case he could just regap them and keep going... Growing up in California I once bought an old VW bug that the owner thought had a bad engine.  It seemed to have good compression and didn't leak, so I made him an offer.  Turned out only the points had closed up!

No they got burnt up probably bad condenser
or wrong coil without resistor. Was in the middle
of the forest and pitchblack night so he towed it
home an changed points and coil and condenser
and now its up and running again better than
ever

Very nice car!  Yes they did indeed make them out of boiler plate back then.  :o

Yes he finally found a nice one, he was traveling around the
country looking at a lot of 59-60s  that was said to be pristine
but was junk. He found this one 50 miles from home ::)

Yes boiler plate, My Galaxie was shot in the hood with 9mm Browning
just left a crease, ricocheted of an killed the wiper arm

Poor wiper arm!  I hope you still have it as a souvenir.

I imagine the Galaxie being shot is an interesting story...

Back in the day I remember most folks carried spare points, condenser, a small file and sometimes even a coil or distributor cap in the trunk.  Also had a spray can of WD40 since it displaces water.

Reminds me of the "Darwin Awards" story of the southern gentleman who burned out a fuse in his pickup truck while shining a spotlight for deer hunting.  He discovered that a .22 caliber cartridge was a perfect fit for the fuse!
