Very cool. A truly 1 of 1 Shelby. It'd be interesting to see how well it runs.

I have a 4x6 foot blueprint of the Shelby EFI on my wall in the garage.  When guys come in and start looking, I usually point to my Mustang and it takes a bit until they realize I am yanking their chain.  :)

It was a sorta modern EFI system other than the "pumpolator" (their name for the regulated pump)

I say: Bullshit!  ::)

No way Jose. It's a modern system and is not from the 60's.

There does seem to be a lot of information on the net regarding The Conelec Company from NY who, back in the '60s, brought out an EFI system that was considered by Shelby.

I'll be damned! They did try an EFI system way back then.  Ken, you gave the name and here's the link:

Chrysler had EFI (Bendix I think) in 58 that they recalled because they could not get it working
reliable with the technology that was affable at that time. As i remember reading about it
long time ago Bosch bought the rights to it and came out with it on the
VW TLE in 68 or something. Thankfully they was not working flawless. So in the late 70s we could get non running TLE s for free to
get the engines for our dunebuggys. We swapped on our set of dual carbs and was king
of the sand pits, 1600 cc and 68 HP 8) ;D...I think i still have the carbs and intake in the barn somewhere

I always thought that the green coupe was the only one that had it, although I suppose more than one of each part was made, maybe someone cobbled it together?

   Lucky you didn't bet anyone! Pete Disher has painstakinly  reproduced a complete working system for this car. It runs as good as it did in '68. It has many "XE" numbered parts like the intake manifold ( cast iron CJ) and the exhaust manifolds ( unique different than "production" CJ manifolds.)  I supplied some of the parts for the engine.

Hi guys, I have been reading this forum since its inception but have never posted.  Lots of excellent info here for sure.

There is information indicating that Shelby planned to offer EFI as a regular option.  The records show 4 ‘68s, 13 ‘69s and 1 ’70 used for EFI development.  I think the ‘68s were all big block cars.  In ’69 there were a few GT350s but most were GT500s using (to the best of my knowledge) otherwise stock 428CJs.

Welcome to the forum, and that is really cool that Shelby was playing around with EFI back in the day.  Sounds like only two of the '68s retained their EFI stuff, how about the '69s?  Any info on what happened with those cars?

  Jay,
    Pete Disher has located one of the '69 350s that was Cleveland powered and had the Conelec system on it and I believe he's found at least one 500 too. His site noted above , has all the details. His research into the system and the cars that it was put on is second to none.
