Started My Second Project Today
« on: February 05, 2018, 07:49:50 PM »
I have two cars for this project, one is 2007 Ford Mustang Gt Premium (4.6l) or a 1966 Mercury Comet Cyclone. Since I am in my early 70's (73) to be exact and I'm old school I am opting for the Comet. The following is my build sheet. I already ordered (today) the Jon Kaase nine heads and the Boss 429 Valve Covers that's why they are not on the list. Btw, Jon Kaase put this build in a 2008 Mustang. My build is a 572ci where his was a 589ci. They recommend to stay with the more streetable 572 which wll produce 800 to 900hp.

Love that Comet!  Do you have everything to make it a complete runner?

My Machine shop/engine builder received the 460 hemi/block today from Jon Kaase. Waiting on the heads to be finished in about two weeks.   Had trouble posting the photo, sorry.

I know he can do it, he is a sharp cat.  I just meant on the Mustang conversion, the next level would have been to retain all electronic functions.

Heck, my 489 does, and I am just a knuckle-dragger :)

The Boss 9 is one week away from being completed. Picture of the heads and the T&D rockers. I talked with Jon Kaase yesterday and he said he had to "deburr" the 4500 Intake Manifold and will send it out today. I just got the delivery date from UPS a few minutes ago.

I have a question? What "460" ford motor mounts would I use for this setup. Any companies you would recommend? "https://i.imgur.com/IWmDAqx.jpg" title="source: imgur.com" /></a>

I don't know about the motor mounts, but those are some funky rotors on that thing.

I am not up to speed on the motor mount options for a 460, but you may want to consider something like Total Performance or some of the other companies on Ebay that make a mount that is like a big eyelet/shock mount.  One of the things I have always disliked about most Ford mounts is that they don't have a good fail safe catch unless you through-bolt them.

BTW, awesome engine, I am jealous, I am just too cheap to spend the cash on a Boss 9 stroker, but it would be so right in mine :)

I can't complain about the 489 FE though, been together for 12 years and hasn't missed a beat

Very Cool James! Sure hope its going into the 1966 Cyclone. My all time Favorite car since reading car comics back in 1966 (still have them)

I am doing a similar deal but 540 cubes with EFI and Twin Turbo's for a daily driver pickup truck.

Yes, it is going in the comet. In fact, the doors, the trunk and the hood are already painted. The rest of the car will be painted after the bottom is put in, tranny, rear end etc. "https://i.imgur.com/lUGjElx.jpg" title="source: imgur.com" /></a>

Do you have any pics of your project?
