DragWeek day 1
« on: September 11, 2017, 07:45:20 PM »
HR said they had a record number of people show up. Out of the 400 limit, 384 were tech'ed. I got in line early and ran an 11.70@113.9 mph which is the quickest and fastest I have ever ran.  8)  This keeps my streak alive. On day 1 of each of the last 4 DragWeeks I have ran my quickest time ever. :) It was a pretty long drive and fairly uneventful except for getting kind of lost once. I broke my cardinal rule which is "Do not just follow some one else" and I got burned...well singed a little anyway. Great weather and great racing!

I did terrible, so I'm keeping my string alive as well..lol 12.8 @ 114 but was spinning most of the way through 2nd gear. The car was pushing HARD to the left till about half track. I had to ease up a bit to get it straightened out. After talking with Alan, I think I know why. You have to make a sharp turn at Cordova from the lane and then go straight into the water box. I don't think my locker had a chance to lock, which would explain why the car was pushing so hard. I'm probably lucky it didn't start getting sideways. Lesson learned, I'll reverse and then go back to 1st next time there's a lane like that.

Also, I need to build more heat in my tires. I've always done my burnout in 1st, but I don't think I get enough wheel speed to build heat doing it that way. I'm going to start doing the burnout in 2nd gear and see if that will help.

Not trying to steal Alan's thread, just figured it'd be better than starting a whole other post. Alan did very well and I was happy to see that. His car is deceiving to look at. Just a big ole heavy Galaxie to the casual observer. I thin Alan's motto is speak softly and knock you over the head with a club..lol

My former trunk monkey Joel is out already with clutch problems.  Apparently his clutch counterweights were hitting inside the bellhousing, and he needed to add more counterweight to keep the clutch from slipping at the top end.  With the existing parts hitting, adding more was not an option.  Disappointing to say the least, given how hard Joel and Jeff worked to get first the coupe, and then the GTX ready for the event.  Maybe Joel should think about switching to one of those oily, greasy, smelly fluid couplings (automatic transmission)  ;D

I felt a strong shift in the dark side of the force. Now I know why. Shudder the thought  8)
Sorry to hear about Joel's troubles. That had to be a disappointing day to say the least.

Joel doesn't need a slushbox. He can shift.

Sorry to hear of the problems. That a Quicktime bell and big clutch?

Oh, no! A slushbox! The horror.....oh, the humanity!  ::)

Sorry to hear of Joel's issues. Yes, I've also like to know the bell type. Lakewood's s/b be deep enough to avoid this issue. I've wondered, if it's a QT bell, about  the shape of the top of them as they seem to quickly taper down from the face...especially the top side.

It is a Quicktime bell, and Joel says he will be going back to a Lakewood to get additional clearance.
