I think your right. It crosses to the FL 820s and that's the Motorcraft # I seem to remember.
Thanks..

A Mopar filter is the short replacement filter with a normal diameter. The Wix number is a 1068 i believe. The short, small diameter filter is a FL400 in motorcraft.

I really really like Baldwin filters too.  I run Baldwins in everything I can get them for

A couple reasons.

First, I generally don't cut filters apart without a good reason, but a Baldwin is really made nice inside on the ones I have cut.   Everything fits together nice and the media pleats are deep and attached nice without being covered in glue or misshapen

Second, I ate my first cam in 25 years on a customer's engine not long ago.  Long story, but the "professionally built heads" were set up poorly, and I trusted the guy.  Oil stayed clean, pump was beat up pretty well, but all bearings looked like new.  Filter seemed to catch it all, didn't even find a significant amount left over in the pan and not a mark on anything else.

Third, they are really affordable compared to other good filters, especially if you buy them by the case and more than anything with diesel fuel filters.

I also will run Wix, Motorcraft, and a few others.  I do shy away from Fram though, I have never had an issue, and used to use them exclusively in the 80s and 90s, but my wife's 36K mile Blazer ate a main bearing.  We owned it since new.  I have no reason to explain it, but had just swapped from AC filters to Fram.  So now I tend to shy away if I can.  May have been unrelated, probably was, but superstitious now LOL

I thought they were one of the few filters still made in the USA, unless that has changed too.

As far as Fram filters go, I'll never use one. Ever.

i dont know how good wix filters are but they stand behind them.my dad had a wrecker with a 390 in it.he put a wix oil filter on it that had a pinhole in the outside skin, all of his oil blew out this hole ruining the 390.he sent the filter to wix and they paid for his engine, with no hassle. you could tell the hole was allready in the filter because it had paint down in the hole,so you could tell the hole was there before the filter was painted at the factory

I've had 2 Fram filters fail, 25-30 lb oil pressure loss. Didn't bother cutting either 1 open, caught it early before any engine damage occurred. Switched to Baldwin or Wix. I buy 'em by the case.
