For 57 Lima Bean
« on: July 28, 2016, 01:42:16 PM »
Here is a 11.09 pass at 122.. I smoked that "Chevelle for brains" by a full second.. Later I beat a 57 Satan's triplet wagon.. He came up and said we should face off.. I said fine lets do it.. While waiting in the lanes I wandered over and looked under his raised hood.. Scott Shafiroff on the valve covers.. he saw me look and says yup 800 horse stroker small block, confident he had sandbagged me and would leave me in the dust.. Close race but I won and out MPH'd him. He was pitted close by but that was the last I saw of him  LOL
A friend related a story from the Meltdown... He was there with a scrub lover friend... The scrub lover was ranting that the wagon did not belong at the event..it was no race car.  He did not come to see 18 second cars.. My friend said you just watch..

After a wheels up pass he asked his scrub loving friend what he thought....   Silence.....

Very cool, Royce!
Why does it seem that most Chevy guys are arrogant jerks? I don't notice this much with the Chrysler or Ford guys. Sounds like you beat the '57 on the top end? I had to look up Scott Shafiroff, never heard of him. Sounds like you need some "Royce Brechler" valve covers  ;)

I like it! The Shafiroff name has been well known in the Shivvy ranks for a long time, leading most of them to consider his valve covers to be horsepower doublers. Can't argue with that, I guess.

Doug, you are going to meet a bunch of very hard core, very cool Chevy guys at Drag Week.  I think nearly anyone who runs the event ends up with respect for their fellow participants.

Shafiroff  now makes ford motors 351 stroked to 459 cubic inches I believe. I can find out for sure because my brother in law has one in his 68 Stang. It makes 790 horse, of course thats his bad as on they come alittle tamer. It goes but its not an FE. Something about popping the hood and seeing that big block with duel quads that just gives ya alittle chubby

I've been to 2 events when you were racing and watched quite a few Drag Week videos over the years, and I'd have to agree with what you said based on what I've seen. A real comradery between racers on a tough journey. I'm looking forward to it.

At car shows I certainly can't say that. I never enter my car in shows, but talking to most Chevy guys leads to silence as soon as I tell them about "a 427 Mustang I have" ::) That's often what I also experience when meeting someone who is a fellow car guy and they turn out to be a Chevy guy. Maybe it's just me they don't like...lol

It's totally you Doug.
I get the same thing when I say I have a 427 Mustang.
They look at you all chevy like, and yup it's all Doug's fault.
You started it.  ;)

I rarely go to car shows anymore.  They are filled with posers and paper tigers, and for some reason there is no sense of shared commitment to the car hobby.  Go figure...

Hammer firmly planted on nail head. I get a little disgusted when they can't even give me details about what's been done to the engine or the car. Check writers. ::)

Only shows I attend now are the spontaneous ones that break out at the gas pumps or grocery store parking lot (maybe a saloon or two also ::) ).  They're enjoyable and typically last for 5 to 10 minutes instead of endless wasted hours.

Every other Saturday night there's a hardies here that about 75-100 cars show up at. E setting from tuners to street rods to pro street and even a good amount of drag cars. Me and the wife normally do our grocery shopping at that time and we always drive by. She ask in the past why we didn't stop as good as I like cars and my reply was because 2/3rds of them have no clue what they got, toss $$$ at them and let someone else. Hope them and that's all well and good, I realize there's alot of guys that love cool cars but have no clue as to how and change the oil. That's fine and no dis respect but I rather talk about the ends and outs, how its built and the experience, to me eye candy is nice to look at but give me the meat and potatoes any day.

By me, my town of Downers Grove, IL has a car show every Friday all summer long. The village does allow street signs put up each morning of the show to alert folks not to park on Main St. and in one other commuter lot. It usually draws about 150 antiques with some late model hot cars as well. Way over 200 cars on the best nights btw.

Most of the guys are pretty handy with tools and the like yet many of the cars only come out for the shows, many of which are held on different nights in 'burb's within 20 miles. Heck, one could see cars every night of every week except Sunday and not have to drive far to do so. Lemont, Glen Ellyn, Berwyn, Naperville and more all have shows coordinated by about 5-7 big area car clubs.

Fun to watch but I don't show either of my Stangs. Way, way too boring to sit in a folding chair for hours on end and get mainly kids asking questions. Me, I'd rather go for a long drive with the windows down, the engine growling and the wind in my hair!
