DW 2016 line up is out
« on: July 20, 2016, 06:49:43 PM »
Out of the 20 cars in my class Street Race BB/NA there are only 2 Ford's and 1 Mercury. Try not to beat me up too much, Doug!  ;)

Cool!  Good to see that Larry Larson is back in the Unlimited group; between him, Lutz, and Bailey it should be quite a race in Unlimited.  Also saw a couple of the Street Outlaws folks competing.  Brad Dyer is coming back in my class, and I'm sure he will shape up to be a formidable competitor as usual.  My former trunk monkey Joel is in Super Street Big Block NA, and will be racing my old pal Vince Rasch in his Pontiac, last year's class winner.  But Curt Johnson is also in that class, instead of his usual BB/NA, so I'm figuring he'll run high 8s again with his BBC Mustang and run away from the pack.  Curt is also signed up in BB/PA with his 70 Chevelle, that won the class in 2007.  Also, Jack and Scott Miller are both back, Jack in Pro Street power adder with his 68 Mustang and Scott in BB/NA with his 68 Cougar.  Scott was second in that class last year, behind Curt, so I think he stands a good chance of winning this year.  Doug and Alan may have a hard time keeping pace with Scott ;)  And I see that Jon Huber is back with his turbo 4 cylinder Fox body Mustang; always a treat to watch that car hang the hoops at the line.  Kevin is signed up in Street Machine Eliminator, but I don't think he'll make it with his Cougar...

I'm getting excited already...  ;D ;D

I see some interesting vehicles on the list, not sure if any of the veterans of Dragweek recognize them - look like some "Street Rods" in Unlimited, I wonder if they will be in the "Pro Mod vein? And a '70 Cadillac in Ultimate Iron? I also spot a '55 Thunderbird and a '58 Ranchero. Should be very interesting.

I've got a few tricks up my sleeve. Scott won't know what hit him  ::)
I saw Scott's engine at Blair's and got the low down on some upgrades. If he can make it through the week I think he's got a real chance of winning. I'll be rooting for him.

And Alan, I think your car was running low 12's? We should be running pretty close depending on how well I can get it to hook. Don't think I'll be beating up on anyone. Besides, you've got the advantage with that new fangled 385 series engine  ;D

I'm also glad to see Larry Larson back in this year. That explains why he was running the Nova in Rocky Mountain Drag Week, he was saving the S-10 for the REAL race.

No Doug Cline on the list. He just won Rocky Mountain Race Week. I was hoping to see the car last year, but he beached it last year at RMRW.

No Doc McEntyre or Jeff McConnell either.  Doc won Pro Street NA last year, Jeff rode with him.  I'm surprised neither of them is entered...

Some really interesting entries... a Land Cruiser in Unlimited? That 70 Caddy,  and there is an Iso Rivolta in one class... haven't ever seen one of those.
Wish I was going.

Actually, I ran 11.80s-90s all week :) except at Union Grove where my car stumbled and I ran a 12-teen.
As far as running my 385 series, fairly cheap big power has a very strong appeal.  I hope to be back in FE trim next year with my '65 Mustang.  :)

With my gearing, that's about the best I could expect if everything lined up perfectly, which is unlikely. I need to take it a bit easy on the clutch with the slicks so I don't smoke it. If I'm still running Friday, that's when I'll let 'er rip.

I am REALLY psyched about going! Not only for the event, but to spend the week with my boy who is also a big car nut. He follows the event every year. He's a Navy Corpsman stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC, so I don't get to see him much, but he's making the trip up to go along. On the plus side, he can dead lift 700 lbs, so I won't even need a jack....lol

Doug, what is your clutch/flywheel setup?

Good luck to everyone going!

The clutch, pressure plate and flywheel are Ram units that I purchased off of Brent. I'm really happy with the clutch and how it acts on the street. Not one sign of slipping but it still engages smoothly on takeoff.

The jack doesn't need to be fed.  ;)

You got me there! He needs to be fed and he needs to be fed often. It probably would have been cheaper if I had bought 2 gold plated, diamond encrusted jacks from Tiffany and Co.

LMAO....the cost of food will be worth it to get the week together. And that jack would be too swanky to use.

I did some spying on Moparts, here's one of the "Street Rods" in Unlimited. Yeah, more like a Fuel Altered LOL. Brian Kohlmans '31 Chrysler. Should be interesting. ( Hemi Joel shared photos )

It is set up with a dual fuel system to run gasoline on the street and NITROMETANE on the track! Coolest drag week effort ever, IMHO! (no offense to the esteemed Professor Brown, but how do you compete with a fuel altered for coolness?)

Hmm, I wonder how he cools that thing with no radiator? Maybe he just drives a 1/4 mile at a time?

There is a radiator with electric fans in the trunk. It looks in the picture like he does not have the cooling system hooked up to the engine yet.

Doug, one of the cool things with Dragweek is observing the ingenuity involved with adapting what is really ( for the faster rides ) a racecar, for the road trip. And not just some weenie 30 lap fairgrounds cruise either. Then for the next year you get to read from the internet peanut gallery how "They aren't really street cars", and you'll come on and say "Yes they are, I was there!" and they will come back with ( insert Dr. Evil voice from Austin Powers here ) "Riiiight" LOL.

If I wasn't too chicken to run in the sixes, I'd build a 65 Comet, flip top style like Jack Chrisman's old car, with a blown SOHC on nitro.  Run nitro at the track, and methanol or E85 between the tracks on the street.  Mechanical fuel injection system on the track, EFI on the street.  I think it would be do-able and far and away the most outrageous Drag Week car ever.  But it will never happens; 8s are fast enough for me  ;D

'Atta boy, Professor, put the FE into unlimited! If you build it, I'm sure you can find someone crazy enough to drive it down the track, and you can be the owner/trunck monkey. Like Terzich did with the Camaro in 2007.

It must be a monster radiator that catches some major air from somewhere, to cool that thing. I see all the louvers in the trunk. To help cool it, I'd think he'd be running methanol instead of gas. Can't wait to see it!

That's one of the things we're most looking forward to. Lutz and Bailey are really fast, but Larson has class and is fast. I was trying today to explain to somebody how they can drive 3000hp on the street, but it's more like 1500 on the street, until they unleash the full potential. They just didn't get it, but they're not really up on the technology in these cars. Can't say I'm a huge fan of the actual cars, they just go way beyond what I'm really interested in, but what they do with them is amazing!

I don't believe I'd want to run 6's either, unless it was in the 1/8th, but that sounds like a cool fricken idea, Jay! That flip top was one of my all time favorites! 8)
