« on: July 06, 2016, 11:48:17 AM »
This is my project A 8/71 Dyers blower Hilborn injection Enderly hat, We made the fenders six inches longer to make room for the blower drive stuff and radiator we are making a full frame tubed in the rear for 17x 33x16 tires and Mustang front suspension here are some pictures. Thanks Leny Mason

That's baddass , Leny!

Blown cars rock!

Gott'a get started on my '65 Cyclone project. Not quite as radical as yours...but still FE powered.

It doesn't look like your blower belt will play nice with your distributor. A pal of mine has the exact same problem. Let us all know the fix.

Tommy this is what I am doing to move my distributor cap out of the way of the blower belt. Leny Mason

Here's an odd distributor on a cammer built by a late friend of mine. Not sure where it came from but in makes room for the belt.

Butch's distributor setup clears normal blower pulleys. The car originally had a mag mounted upside down like the one above, but the new setup is much cleaner. Your setup looks great too Lenny.

Another common way if not running a water pump is to run it off of the stub cam, especially if the fuel pump is running off of the idler gear.

I ordered the rear end housing today a full flouter forty inches axle flange to axle flange, four link brackets are twenty inches wide, with thirty five spline axles, and Wilwood brakes, I am thinking of using an air locker posatraction any ideas on that,  the frame is almost done but we need the housing to finish the shock brackets I will do pictures of the frame when it's done. Leny that frame node above the rear end is a piece of artwork.
Really stoked on your car. Checked out your engine on photo bucket.
Hey the bags in front. Are you using those to play with the suspension travel/height as you build and apply weight?

Hi and thanks, XR7 I will be running gas  and we made a roll bar and I had it chromed it looks great I will post a picture of it when I get the chrome out of the unwanted areas so the couplings can couple, that is the down side of chrome it makes everything thicker, I dropped the back another two inches sense that picture, the hole is in the hood now, here is another frame picture. Wow, Leny!
That painted on trim looks great! Glad you're getting toward the end of your project.

I took the taillight housings and peripheral chrome pieces for them, and the headlight doors to the chrome shop yesterday. A thousand bucks! Geeze pot metal is expensive to chrome. Taking the rear panel trim to be polished today. At least a '65 Cyclone doesn't have belt line chrome the length of the car like a '64. My Cyclone has a stainless molding at the bottom of the rocker box that goes between the front and rear wheelwells. It's held on by plastic clips that are held on by rivets coming out of the body. The plastic clips are not reproduced. Go figure!

Anyway, your car is badazz! Hope the cammer acts the way you want it to. Big power for sure. I ran a 8-71 on my 454 incher for years in my Mustang and they're violent as hell. Have fun!

Thanks I went with 3.25 gears to take some of snort out of it so maybe won't be so violent on the low end, It will be a hand full anyway. Leny Mason

I decided to go with port injection instead of above the blower injection, Larry Gould talked Me into it He said it will have a lean spot when you bleep the throttle because they rev up to fast to get enough fuel through the blower, so I took the intake off and I am drilling it for the injectors one step backwards. Hope all is well with You two, there is some issues with the paint We are working it out, the engine is almost done I am waiting  for the people making the coils but with this bug  who knows when that will be, We had to make spacers to make up for what was cut off the heads so they would match with the front cover . Cool!  Hey Leny - Who makes the coil sticks you're using?  That's such a natural for a cammer  8)  Are they the correct length?

I got the rear brakes plumbed in and working on the front, the master cylinder is in the car under the dash so the tubes can run inside the car most of the way not what I am used to Leny Mason.

Hi, I am having a hard time bleeding the brakes, My master cylinder is under the dash and I put the reservoirs next to the speaker in the dash and that turned out ok but we put the carpet in before bleeding the system, a bad idea found some leaks I hope it doesn't hurt the carpet, I have Willwood calipers  and they are not bleeding very nice dangit .

Leny take a good look at your Wilwoods.
There are different sets of what look like bleeders. The larger are not the bleeders. It’s the smaller ones.
I did the same thing and wondered what I was doing wrong.
It’s an easy mistake to make.

When I read this I confused myself so let me restate.
The bleeders are very small and not readily apparent if you don’t look closely. Us older guys have a hard time seeing.
The adjusters are very small. Maybe 1/4 inch. Can’t remember. Anyway don’t turn the larger nut part there is a very small adjuster. The correct adjuster will do a nice 1/4 turn bleed. The larger nut is just a base for the adjuster.

Yup, went out to my car and checked. 1/4 inch hex.

Hi, I have went through 3 pints of brake fluid and very little brakes, the 1/4 bleeders are there and working it is frustrating, maybe the air is coming from the master cylinder they sent me a new one right after I got the brake assembly because it was faulty maybe I still have a problem.

Hi well the master cylinder is leaking it to the booster dangit, so I made adaptors to center the wheels to the hubs and had to make lug nuts to fit the wheels and had them chromed, it turned out nice, we started to make stainless headers today, 2 1/4 primers and 3 1/2 collector's, I am glad we got rid of the shock towers and made the front end longer way more room. That cammer is baddazz! Hope to see it out here at Bakersfield.
My Comet is still in paint jail. I hope to have it home soon so I can finish it up.

Don't wipe all the paint off of the firewall or you'll have to paint it again! ;)

I had to go with a 8 MM belt pulley My 1/2 inch pitch belt was slipping, and the adjuster was slipping on the snout so I had to make a brace to hold it from moving, My new 8 MM pulleys are 57 driver and the driven is 53, it sounds nice now Leny Mason.

Hi Leny, Beautiful build. I saw your car on another site from 2020 and I knew you had to be hanging out on Jay's site.

Can you tell me about your ignition system? What distributor is that? Is it of your own design? I saw where W.Conley was asking about the coil packs, I've never seen a system that looked so clean.

I'm on year 8 of my 3 month build  ;D and my car is nowhere near the class act you have there.

Thanks for sharing your build.

The ignition is from a Nissan V 8  I had to modifie it to turn the other direction and make adaptor coupling and front plate to drive it from the idler sprocket, thanks for the kind words Leny Mason.

Well I have put some miles on it and it is doing great except the other day the throttle stuck, and it took some time to get to the key and shut it down, I did some reading about the Enderle hat, You need two springs one on each side and some adjusting and it is working good now, kind of spooky for a few moments.

Yikes!!  I'm sure a blown cammer sticking wide open will get your attention!  :o :o

Glad it worked out well and you're enjoying the car.

Thanks t is running very nice and drives good, it has taken a while to work some bugs out but fun, I am glad I went with 325 gears the power is manageable with 3500 stall, maybe when I get used to it I can go with lower gears.

I have been driving it a lot, I need to do something different about cooling the blower, I have a water meth system squirting just above the blower to cool it but it is liking it to much, I have been going through six gallons every fifty miles I plugged off half of the injectors and I am still using two gallons in fifty miles, so I am going to put four Small injectors and and run them at twenty percent of the time with gasoline and see what happens, but it is way more fun to drive then building it, I was tired of working on it by for now Leny.

Hi Leny,
Good to see you're driving your Comet.
Mine is driving too, but when it gets below 70*f here in Los Angeles, it's too cold to go outside.

As far as the water/ meth system on your blower, I had a Snow system on my 8-71 blown 454FE in my Mustang. I had plates under the carburetors that had 1 jet under each carb. It had a progressive controller that started injecting a 5lbs. and was full open at 9lbs. It worked fine, never "peppered" the spark plugs, and lasted about 30 gallons of gas before refilling.
With the amount of water you're using be careful of hydrolocking that motor!

Hi, yes I am concerned about that we are shutting the solenoid and the pump at intervals it is though it is siphoning it I have had it with that so I am putting fuel to cool it.

I have the stock fuel pump but it is not on the engine I am running Weldon fuel pumps one For Fuel and one for Water Meth.
