1UB Internally Balanced
« on: May 15, 2016, 07:43:35 AM »
Hey guys,
I was wondering if it's possible to internally balance a cobra jet crankshaft? I recently read a classified ad of a person selling an 427 engine with a 1UB crankshaft that he claims is internally balanced. Is this possible?

So it is possible, just with extra expense versus a standard balance job?

It's done all the time and actually the proper way to go. Depending on the piston/rod combo you should see about 3 slugs Mallory metal on the back counterweight and maybe elsewhere. Internal balance of that crank will have other tell tail signs but the added weight is the most obvious.

Ironically my 428 cranks (that I shipped all the way to Ark Ak to be machined) is being done right now for my 427. I will be tickled green ($$$) if it only takes 3 slugs - I'm expecting more
