Stuck Carbs

 I have an Autolite 4100 and a Holley spread bore that have frozen shafts. Anything out there that will breakup the rust without scoring or dissolving the aluminium?

You can try an ultrasonic cleaner. They will take off the dichromate finish but won't harm the aluminum.  Most machine shops have them.

I've used CLR the household cleaner but don't remember doing so with aluminum.

I have some clr on hand. I'll soak a broken base plate first to see what happens. Is ultra sonic cleaner used to clean off Zyglow or is it the vat solution?

An ultrasonic cleaner is a machine that uses ultrasound, with water or a cleaning solution. Used in jewelry shops, and hospitals, etc. A buddy bought one big enough for carbs and it works great.

Not sure if its the best way, but onetime i saved an autolite by soaking it in diesel.

Try Evapo Rust or Metal Rescue rust soak. I have used Evapo Rust several times and worked great. Very easy on parts. I usually put the parts in a jar or bucket depending on the size and let soak overnight. You should be able to find it at a local auto parts store or similar. I found it at a local OReilly, but I think my local Farm and Fleet sells it too. I believe it was around $20-$25 for a gallon.

Recently read about soaking carbs in Pine Sol.  Not sure how that works with rust.

For those of you that have never tried this stuff, it is magic.  I am not sure how it works, but I bet it would do great.  Its water based, leave it in there for 24-48 hours, then blow it out and shoot it with penetrating oil as a lube, I bet it would loosen up just fine.

Also, don't throw it out, it can be diluted a little and used over and over again until it's too filthy to put parts in

WD-40 nor CLR did the trick. CLR directs not to use on aluminium, but at this point there was nothing to loose. I'll keep working on the Autolite with Simple Green as recommended by Daytona Carbs. I can replace the spread bore base plate with a new piece for $150 through Holley, may go that route.

Buy some of that stuff we mentioned above.  It's cheap enough that it's worth a shot.  Evaporust for 24 hours, then a shot of some sort of penetrating lube could do it
