Nixon wasn't man enough to drive that car.  And, I think the builder stopped one blower short of all out  ;)  Still, pretty badass...

If it was Nixon good for him.  That's the kinda presidential image we need.....  When I think of Bill Clinton and blower in the same sentence, i get a totally different image.

Open headers are street legal?

Street legality doesn't require lights?

That woman must smell of gasoline after a block...I guess some guys might like that 'perfume'.

Jack Keller is bad at grammar (cars)...he should stick to drawing comic books but leave the commentary to someone else.

If you look close I think there are motorcycle mufflers on those zoomie headers. I have however seen open zoomie's many times at the street Rod Nat's. That comic is way cool, wonder who inspired who?

Nice find.

Long before 10 yrs old I would buy those comic's from a local drug store. They were around 10-12 cents each.

When I saw the pic above it looked very familiar so looked up a scan I made a few years back.

I just dug the comic out once again and it was from December 1968 when it was actually printed. A lot of story was with the new 1968 AMX

I have many many comics with the 63-67 Ford's n Mercury's

It was from these comets where I first spotted the '66 Cyclones and the mention of a 427 Side Oiler engine.

At least in the Comic's the 427 Ford's were usually on the winning end.

Street Rods, 1/4 Miler's and roundy rounds powered by the FE engines. Most stories about the 427.

I would be curious to find out when the SOHC rod was built. Comic being December 1968.

I saved a lot of magazines, comics etc from mid to late 60's

I build many of plastic models from back then too. One was a 1965 F100 with a 427 SOHC. Still have the truck along with a 1968 GT500 which as also SOHC powered.

I have that '68 GT500 model too.  It's half built, still in the box!  I started building it in 1989, then put it aside to work on my real '68 Shelby  ;)
A careful study of failure will yield the ingredients for success.

OK, the street rail shot was taken on Fallbrook Avenue, turning into Fallbrook Square, one of the first outdoor malls built in the country. This is my old neighborhood, guys. Then Canoga Park, CA, now West Hills. I grew up within walking distance of the Square. My good friend and N54 forum member, Mr. FeWedge, likewise grew up a couple miles north of the Square. So, let "us" fill you in.

The rail's owner was Frederick of Frederick's Old Time Butcher Shoppe, one of the earliest tenants of the Square. He was a neighbor of FeWedge's, and often drove that vehicle to and from his work. The "VGB" license plate is 1967 local issue. That is not a disco shirt; that is an old school fire jacket. The zoomies indeed had motorcycle muffs in them. Still loud.

The car was on the cover and featured in the March 1968 issue of Car Craft.

In a small ad in the back, Frederick was selling copies of his rail in legal street trim for $8900 each. Unknown if he ever sold any.

Fallbrook Ave has quite the history in my past. I have stories.

Hah cool.
This is my long time neighborhood.
Used to street race on Winnetka Avenue next to the drive in, before the street went through.
Used to stop at the rr tracks and was almost a half mile with a bit of a curve in the shut down area.
Many don't believe it with the way things are today but the cops actually used to watch.
Guess they didn't mind cause the street was closed off. Never asked 'em.
Boy you sure can't tell that as Fallbrook Ave. nowadays.
Great info, thanks.

Honestly? What I have learned from the other forum is that, these days, it just isn't worth spending time composing stories of interest for little or no feedback from others. Take, for example, some action in the other Classifieds. A few days back JMO pissed off a bunch of people in a thread about a 390 for sale. The title of his initial post was "Option". So, I thought I'd do a tongue-in-cheek comeback in an ad for somebody's TRW pistons 2-3 days ago. That little vignette did not take just 30 seconds to pound out, ya know.

I was rewarded with one smiley face from one guy. I should have remembered that the last time I tried a humorous post it went down in flames, too. The Fallbrook stories are way too numerous to get into. I should not have mentioned anything about it, I guess. Will stick to tech. Back to the yard work.

FElony, I always read but rarely comment. Story telling amongst a group of people is an art. Your ability to peck out stories on a keypad goes beyond that. Always good for a laugh. These forums are better with your stories. Keep'em coming.
