Drew, when I look at the original question I can see where we do need more info. Fuel delivery isn't the issue in this case.
Starter cranks fine cold, will engage and maybe get 1/2 rotation on the crank before it quits cranking when hot.
Engine fires right up if you can get the starter to roll it over. Once cranking, even right after the 10 minute wait on a "Sorta hot" engine the starter will keep cranking till fire-up.
Running headers (naturally) that are very close to the starter. Part of the reason for my post was looking to see if anyone knew of a smaller gear reduction starter, maybe even a clockable one to get the best position as well that would fit the older flywheel.
On timing, I did back it off a few degrees last week during some good weather to see if the situation improved, no change except the expected performance impact.
Finally, I have not had the starter tested either, it looks brand new but age and condition of the internals are unknown. If I do yank it I do not want to put a standard full sized starter back in.
