Drag Week 2015
« on: April 08, 2015, 11:19:58 AM »
http://www.hotrod.com/news/2015-hot-rod-drag-week-day-1-track-announcement/#.VSSHv7sd2SM.twitter

Dates and the 1st track announced!

Gateway at St Louie on Sept 13!

That make me happy because the Duesenberg Drag Race is the weekend before, and if Drag week would have been at the same time, I'd have to miss it.  Now I can make both!

That's a long story.  After running the block up to the machine shop for the repair, it took the machinist a couple of months of welding, machining, and thinking before he finally had the block repaired to the point where he felt that it would go back together.  That was understandable, but still a 2+ month wait; I wasn't able to think about ordering parts until after Thanksgiving.  So, at the PRI show in early December I ordered new sleeves, pistons, and rods.  Of course, after PRI everybody in the business bails for Christmas, and when they come back in January they've got a big backlog.  So, it took me until February to get the sleeves, and the pistons and rods didn't arrive until the end of March.  The sleeves are now installed in the block, and the block has been filled to the water pump openings with hard block, and is now being rough bored to shape.  Next week the hard block will have sat long enough so that the sleeves can be honed.  I'm expecting the get the block back ready for assembly by the end of this month.

I went as fast as I could on this, but have had to wait seven months for parts and labor before I can finally start getting the engine back together.  And I still don't have the header collectors I ordered last fall, for a new set of headers I want to build.  Couple this with a few changes I want to make to the engine, and I'll bet I'll be working right up to Drag Week to get the car ready again this year  ::)

Don't you love it when a plan comes together. I bet you could use a crew of Oompa Loompa's to help out.

Practically right next door, Kevin.  I'm guessing Cedar Falls or Cordova for day 4, and then back to Gateway for day 5.  Wonder when they'll announce registration?

I'm wondering since the day 4 track will be announced tomorrow, if Saturday they will give the "1 week warning" for registration? Time will tell.

Yes, it would be fun to have a get together at the track (assuming I don't BREAK before I get there  ::))
