I'll add to that a little, there was actually quite a bit that came with the package. Both the '60 & '61 HP used a solid lifter camshaft. The cast iron "shorty" headers started with the '60 352 / 360hp and continued on the '61 390 HP. Jay's dyno testing showed a substantial increase in power with those over the flat manifolds. And although visually the '60 352 HP aluminum intake and the '61 390 HP look similar, Jay's testing also saw a significant improvement there too. The garden variety FE came with an Autolite carb ( an excellent carb ) but both HP's came with a slightly larger Holley. In '60 the HP came with high compression heads with a better combustion chamber, I'm not sure about the '61 version.

To add to this the '60 352-360 and '61 390-375/401 both use the C0AE-6090D heads.  Both engines also used the same spec cam.  The '60 used a 540cfm Holley and the '61 390-375 used a 600cfm Holley.  The advertised CR is 10.6-1.

Head Specs,

In port 2.34 x 1.34

Ex port 1.84 x 1.28

59.7cc

I'm currently gathering parts to build either a '61 390-375 or 401.  I have both intakes and the correct carburetors.  This engine will go in my '61 Fairlane that I am currently restoring.  My plan is to build this car basically like it was 1961 and see how fast it will go...

I still have my 61 HotRod Yearbook that my dad bought, it has the old-style breakdowns of the engines laid out in pieces and extensive spec articles, 390/375 and 401, 409 Chebbie, and IIRC the 389 Poncho

The COAE 6090-D cylinder heads are the most special part of the 375 HP 390 engine. A friend of mine massaged a pair for a 427 stroker motor. Chamber size is the smallest of any FE head that Ford ever made. These are 2.15 / 1.66" valves:

R code 428CJ Cougar Red / Black XR-7
