Sounds like a solid combo.
I see your oil pressure is steady at 84 psi, which is good.
Which oil pump and spring are you using?
Do you remember your bearing clearances?
Just gleaning data. Thanks.

Cody, are you sure the intake is a Holley STRIP Dominator? I have had Street Dominators, but I didn`t think Holley made any FE Strip Dominators.

I think it must be a Street Dominator, since they never made a Strip Dominator for the FE.  Maybe Cody sent it to Joe Craine for porting and now its a Strip Dominator  :D

Guys: I will try to help forum members on a limited basis with intake manifolds, but I am trying to keep it at a minimum.  I still have not gotten to a couple of my own projects.  I have been helping a couple of my old customers with really neat combinations, and it has been fun.(270-280cfm through a 1.94 intake valve.)  If you are not in a hurry, then e-mail me with your need, and I will see what is possible.  Joe-JDC.

Well you guys are right. It's a street dominator intake.  I'm running a m57hv pump with the supplied spring from melling. Front sump pan with 6 quarts oil. Oil clearances are in the. 0025-.0030 range as I reused the rod and main bearings last time it was apart. Running 5w50 oil. These engine never had that kind of pressure in the truck.  Probably due to low temperatures on the dyno.

I did notice that the water temp was pretty low.
Might have even put the numbers a tad higher if it was a bit warmer.
The oil would have been pretty thick.

Actually, lower water temperatures will result in higher horsepower numbers than higher water temperatures.  The reason is that the lower temps keep the intake charge cooler, and make the engine more volumetrically efficient.  Less heating of the air/fuel charge in the intake tract, basically.  Thicker oil will tend to reduce horsepower, but the affect of the water temperature is much larger than the effect of the oil temperature.  This is why you'll see a lot of racers icing down their intake manifold or flushing the cooling system with cold water before a pass.  If you can manage it, cold water and hot oil will give you the best horsepower numbers on most conventional engines.

We have seen two Dyno sheets this week.
On one it shows .88 Inertia Factor and the other shows .68 Inertia Factor.
How much would this effect the big number everyone wants to see?

Howie, that is a really good question, and I don't know the answer.  This relates to the way the DTS dynos function; Superflows don't have an equivalent number.  Maybe Barry or Blair or someone who knows something about DTS dynos will chime in on this one.  I'll ask when I have a chance - Jay

Wanted to add some interesting info I learned at the  race track track last weekend... story goes my friend needed a engine to borrow for his 1964 falcon drag car for a couple of weeks because his edelbrock headed 428 pulled a rocker stud insert out of its head. So my trucks 390 that I dynoed last fall was just sitting on the floor next to my truck yet so we stuffed it in his drag car so he could stay in the points chase. I figured his 3100-3200 lb. Car would go 11.60-11.40's in good air. Well we only made 2 qualifying passes and it ran better than we expected car went 11.17 @ 118 mph and 11.16 @ 118 and change. First round eliminations it went 11.18 @ 118 mph and he spun the tires 2nd round eliminations and went 11.29. Only changes from the dyno were using my friends biggs 950 instead of my custom 800 quick fuel and using the homemade oil pan that fits the car.. moral of the story is I guess I need to build a race car if I want to go fast cheap lol.

Great results, Cody.  You need to find a 3/4 scale pickup for the race track  :D

Pretty sure this thing would break into the 10's if we put the 4.56's in the car and get after the leave rpm which was only 3800 rpm last weekend. What does the moroso hp calculator say this about this combo?

If it's 3200 pounds with the driver the Moroso dream wheel says just over 400 HP.  If it is 3400 with driver, about 430.

It's going to take a few more HP to get my Galaxie in the 12's but from what you've demonstrated here I should be able to pull it off without having to go entirely crazy.

Very nice and very encouraging Cody, thanks for showing me this!

Your welcome Wade. I know your car is a little heavier than my truck but I still don't see any reason you can't run mid to upper 12's with your car. I figure your aerodynamic advantage cancels out any weight difference there is. Get er done...

Here is my street dominator..

I did.not end up using this intake but went dual quads. I have been squeezing every HP out of my build I can from anywhere I can so I am hoping for some nice numbers from my 445. I started the assembly or the bottom end yesterday at my sisters heated garage and moving along.

What specs on that Oregon Cam Cody?  And what are you doing to find you a few more HP?

And I think I saw a video of your truck on the dragstrip once but I can't find it anymore.  Can you post a link for the vid?  :)

I was playing around with the videos I posted the other day and took a couple still shots of my rear tire at the hit and also the truck just after the hit. Never knew the truck was wading up the tires so much. Probably killing the sidewalls long before the tread is worn off....

That is tire abuse, plain and simple LOL!  How much pressure are you running, Cody?  Have you tried increasing it any?  I'll bet you'd pick up some MPH if you added a couple PSI...

Hoosier 2 9/10.5w-15 with tubes and 15 psi in them... any less and the truck wags its tail on the top end... I've tried more pressure with mixed results doesn't stay hooked on a marginal track with more than 15. I think the truck just needs bigger tires.. I might try stiffening the shock extension a little. I can also lengthen the ladder bars some but last time I tried that it didn't work out very well...

So I made some changes to the 390... kinda felt like I was going backwards putting the old 427 medium riser intake back on this motor but it lined up with the valvecover rails the best on the C8AE-H heads that I installed this time around. So the 390 looks pretty stockish with ford part numbers on everything but the headers and the 4779-2 holley. Anyway the truck which has no grill, headlites, fenders, or hood went a new best of 1.61, 7.54@89, 12.007@109.2 mph this last weekend at WIR. Im very happy with this combo now. Just hope I can get that elusive 11.xxx out of it this season with all the sheetmetal on it. I have a video to post of the pass but I am having trouble getting it to upload.

Little update on the little FE that could.... the truck engine got into the elevens a few times this past weekend.... story is on the other forum but the new best is 11.94 @ 109.5 with the whole front end installed... i want to get the truck scaled this week and see what it actually weighs after all the changes...  I went crusing in the f100 Saturday night and raced it Sunday morning... I can proudly say I have a street legal 11 sec. Truck with a iron headed pump gas 390 :)

Got to scale the truck and it is coming in at 3830 lbs. I didn't get to use race car scales but I believe these numbers are fairly accurate from the local feed mill. Eventually I will get it scaled properly then I will know all the percentages...

Just bumping this up for Wally... Side note...Hope to be going drag racing on the ice next weekend... If I get some video or pictures I will try to post them since I figure some members have never seen ice drags before... It pretty amazing how fast and quick some vehicles can go on 660 ft of smooth Ice.. Hope I can keep the rubber side down... I haven't done this in probably 8-10 years :)

I'd check with other scales as well.

My truck at the metal scrapyard was 3920 and at the dump was 3890.
Mine is a 76 F100, 390/c6 long bed.  I do have an aluminum intake and radiator.
I guess it could be possible, but I haven't really tried to make mine weight less other than cutting off useless stuff.

The tires consist of many hours of "screwing" with a drill or screw gun... Many pounds of drywall screws... Usually a case of beer or two and a tv with your favorite programs... Long and tedious task to make up a set of tires... There should be some pictures on www.merrillicedrags.com

Finally had a weekend where I could go do some ice racing. Unfortunately this was the last race of the season and not at the location where I wanted to run but it still felt good to get in the seat and make a pass.  The starting line sucked as they weren't plowing/sweeping the lanes between runs like they do at the merrill ice drags. Truck had to dig through 2-3 inches of loose snow/ice before getting down to the good solid ice.  So the times are slower than what I was hoping for. Video links to you tube video....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YgNuvxaBiw&noredirect=1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdnNbJya4-g&noredirect=1

In the second video I'm racing against an S10 with aluminum headed sbc and two stages of nitrous which I don't know if he sprayed both kits or one or none. He said he was just gonna spray the one small kit.  All I do know is he only made the one run and he couldn't get his truck restarted when it died in the shutdown area.  I talked to the owner/driver before we raced and he claims his truck runs 10.40's on the asphault in the 1/4 mile.  I was expecting to get my @$$ handed to me but as you can tell from the video that wasn't the case he did beat me but only by a tenth. I was happy to take 2nd since I was the only ford in the class and I had the heaviest vehicle by a large margin. Only 2 tenths of a second seperated the top three of us.  I'm probably the only one running stock heads and intake also lol.

Hard to tell since I don't have a trap mph and with slippage at the start the E.T. Would also skew the results of any calculator. The 390 should be somewhere between 450-500hp according to werbyford.. The air density was around 100 that day which is pretty high but I don't know what the humidity was.. Anyway I'm guessing it's somewhere around there.. Still not enough :)

Dunno much about the trucks origins except that it's been pieced together many times from very many donor parts trucks over the years...Cab has F350 custom badges on the side and it's got a 1974 grill... That's how we came up with 1974.... It's referred to as the purple truck or the stock truck normally... :)

I am amazed at how well you hook up on that ice, looks cold and scary to me! The first video won't work, says private? What is a go pro? What rpm are you shifting at? It sounds great!

I accidentally had video set to private... It should play now... I shift about 6300-6500 rpm depending how the track is... I have a go pro hero 3 video camera that I can mount anyware on the truck... Thanks

Okay video camera, that's why the video/audio is so good. I am thinking the JR. West Coast Mirrors are slowing you down at speeds of 109! lol

i watched your first video at the track racing a snowmobile,  i hate that,  we all have 4 wheel cars or trucks can we just race 4 wheel cars or trucks please jmho.  also i see your are nipping away at your e.t. getting a tenth here and their, here is my question,  have you ever tried taking the california mirrors off each side to see if that helps you any with the e.t.   it maybe nothing at all but remember wind resistance starts about 35 to 40 mph.  i guess its just for my own dumb curiosity.  i am a truck driver and if youve ever noticed these newer semis have some aerodynamic mirrors on them.  so for what its worth it think taking them off to race should help you.

I took the mirrors off once... I didn't really notice much difference... Less than a tenth IRRC... Back when the truck was 4300 lbs and running 13's :)

Those aren't mirrors, they're bug deflectors....to deflect bugs into the interior and right into your face and chest. I know from experience. ;D

A link to my office view from the annual all ford memorial race in hardinsburg KY at US 60 dragway. Where the mistress ran a new best ET of 7.29 @ 91.73 mph with a 1.535 60 ft.

A better launch this time compared to the April vid, for sure.  ;)

Still, some side-stepping Corey after watching it a few times. Perhaps get some close-up vid footage behind the truck, shooting right off the pavement to catch the tires, suspension movement, etc.

For a old truck leaf spring system I think thats about as good as it's gonna get.  Time will tell as I'm taking the truck all apart to fix a few things, rearend, cab, rollbar, engine, transmission, suspension, pretty much everything... hope to have it back out for drag week...

Well I missed drag week by a couple weeks, but I finally got the mistress back to the track. Link to some videos posted on Facebook my wife took.

https://www.facebook.com/ladowski/posts/10212109799714682

I was making changes after each pass, truck kept getting faster until the last pass when I tried the short and fat drag radials I bought to try and crutch the streetable 4.10 gear in the truck, it really probably needs a 4.57 gear.. Will have to try them again on a good track someday. Truck gained 150 lbs between the new rearend, disc brakes, 35 spline axles, 6 point rollbar, aftermarket block, and other safety items. After I redo the wheel tubes and bed floor I'd guess it's gonna gain at least another 50 lbs and change out the aluminum center section for a iron one. Still running on just the edelbrock mechanical fuel pump and 3/8 line, will have to finish the install of the 1/2 line and electric pump and see if the performance improves any.
