The 445 is now a solid flat tappet race truck

It is indeed probably too fast for its drum brakes, lift kit and big tires LOL

I did a swap to solids, took out the 270H retarded to 110 ICL, stock rockers with end stands, and put in a custom Bullet, 282 adv, 236 @ .050, 112 LSA on 104 ICL, .580 lift, lashed at .015, and Erson rockers

What a nice difference, really loosened up the motor, spins to 6000 happily and seems like it gained power everywhere, and certainly didn't lose low end.  It just basically feels happier everywhere

The rest of the build is a 445 FE, 10.03:1 measured, ported D2TE-AA (277 cfm @ .500) w/ CJ aftermarket valves, ported RPM, 3310, Duraspark, headers and 3 inch mandrel bent duals

A little too sandy and salty to get too many miles on it, but hopefully we'll have continued good weather and I can take it on a good run over Christmas.  I am going to try to figure out a better way to get a video, but very happy with this combo. Would be a great setup in a 3.50 geared street car.

Great to hear that you didn't lose bottom end, Ross.  So many folks seem to be scared of duration and what it may do to the bottom end performance, but as cubes get bigger you can definitely bump up the duration without seeing any ill effects.  If your engine was 500" I'll bet it would behave the same with a 248@.050" cam...

That's the truth Jay, to add to that, I continue to reaffirm that I'd rather have a bigger cam timed early than a small cam timed late.

Sounds like a sweet build. Does it run OK on unleaded? I'd like to do about the same thing for my wife's 67 coupe. I have a set of c4 heads and blue thunder intake not being used. It would mostly be street driven but occasionally be on the strip.

I haven't put many miles on it with this cam, but had a few hundred with the hyd cam and it ran absolutely fine on mid grade

My Mustang does too, even at 10.7:1, as long as you keep the quench tight and pay attention to cam choice they are not fussy

I have been looking at your build and thinking hmmmmm... Will you post what kind of mileage you have gotten pre and post cam swap.  I am getting about 12.45 to 12.84 mpg on my stock F250 390/C6 w/ 3.54 gears

I got mid 12s with the 390 and it seemed better but I never checked with a fill up with the 445 and the hyd cam, it just never needed to shift unless I stopped.

I'll let you know on this setup, you'd it'd almost have to get a little worse mileage, but not sure because it feels much better part throttle.

Unfortunately not sure when I can take it on a long run, although it certainly can handle any weather, I just can't get myself to take it out on a salty road!

Yeah, I want to be able to throw a big ol' toolbox in the bed and drive to a job and drive it to work as a DD, and if I find a new toy while I am gone, put it on the back of a uhaul trailer and drag it back home.

Interesting, if an automatic, what stall are you running? How much vac. at idle? I,m asking because I have a similar build in a 4000 lb car with stock converter (270 H).

I'll check idle vacuum later today, but its a 4 speed.  However it is a 4 speed with 32 inch rubber and 3.50s in a 4000 lb truck.

Very hard to get a cell phone movie, the Flowmasters tend to make this odd sound in the movie but not in person.

Regardless, here is the truck idling, I clearly need to clean my back bay :)
