Jack Miller's Cougar at Drag Week

Joe-jdc:
I guess that explains the unusual hood ornament! LOL  If it didn't look like a GM product, it would be cool.  Beautiful cars, I almost bought a '69 CJ Cougar, but bought the Fairlane Cobra instead.  Joe-JDC

yeah, didn't mean to blaspheme.
If it were an 800hp 385, there wouldn't be much mystery.... an 800hp FE is worth talking about :-)

The GM hood ornament was a last ditch effort to get to drag week and the boss 429 type scoop didn't have quite enough clearance to clear the carbs with a 2 inch spacer. That will be changed for next year. It did look a little out of place but it was definitely functional. The engine made right at 700 ft lbs torque and 820 hp on Jim Morgans dyno in Maryland. This engine is right at 500 cu in and I have had it for a while with a one carb set up which made 768 hp at 7000. I took it to Blair Patrick and he dropped the compression about 2 points with a different cam so we could run it on pump gas at least on the road. Blair added the 2x4 set up. Heads have been set up for t&d rockers and been ported quite a bit by myself which is why #8 intake popped a small in the short radius leading to internal water injection which definitely killed off some power. Looks like the head can be fixed so we look forward to going back to drag week next year. Lord willing.

Thanks for the details, Jack.  Any details on the cam?  I'm curious about that...

::) Very nice Jack! What ET's does it run and MPH. I'm thinking it is pretty quick!

Thanks for posting.
