When you see the exhaust open enough to notice it, adjust the intake, I guess I'd estimate when I see 1/4 inch rise?  Never really paid attention

When you see the intake start to fall after maximum lift, adjust the exhaust, I guess I usually let it drop about 1/2 way-ish

What you are doing is putting the cam in a position where the opposite valve is closed (on its base circle).
