Comp 938-16 springs
« on: January 15, 2024, 09:58:23 PM »
Somewhere along the line I have accumulated a couple sets of Comp 938-16 valve springs, and trying to nail down their usage. They seem to be an oval-track solid roller spring, I've seen some usages for around .660 lift. Has anyone used these, and what are their limits for cam size and RPM in a large-valve FE ? Can they also be used on a higher lift solid FT cam with tool steel lifters? Thanks

You’d have to measure one and see where it binds up at.  200 lbs seat and 515 at .650” lift is what’s advertised.

Too much, IMO, for a flat tappet and tool steel lifters.  Would work for a steel cam and DLC coated tool steel lifters though.

Thank you kind sir- yeah, that's what came up on a few roundy-rounder forums for lift, mid to high .600's. Sounds like a good job for my "new" Intercomp spring tester  ;) I have a .687 solid roller, sounds like they would match up well

Too much lift and not enough spring load for a solid roller with that spring.

That spring would work with a limited travel hydraulic roller, but probably not much else with an FE due to valve weight.
