'67 f250 repaint... roof right now (Done!)

I finally got the roof repainted on my '67 F250. When I started I thought it might take a week or two and it's been a little over a month so I am right on schedule, LOL.

Yes and no. I have seen other trucks rusted there, possibly due to the type of seam sealer used at the time. I think in my case(it has been painted before) it was exacerbated by the painter putting the seam sealer in really thick, about 3/8" thick and over time it pulled away a little and allowed moisture to get in behind it and rust.

Roof looks good! With good seam sealer it ought to be good for a long time.

Both bump and dent sides use a very similar structure for the drip rail and roof skin, are prone to rusting in the drip rails. The worst are the crewcabs because of the way the factory extended the cabs, the roof skin/drip rail in around the center of the cab rot really badly.

Also seen the front upper windshield pinchweld rotted where water gets behind the windshield gasket and lays up there.

My 67 f100 I drove daily for a few years the whole front rotted open.  I had to duct tape it closed to drive it because it would flap in the wind at highway speed!

I finally got the truck all painted. It's been a long row to hoe(as my dear grandmother used to say) but I am almost there. Being a rank amateur I have yet to figure out how to spray clearcoat smoothly so as a consequence the vertical surfaces have a lot of orange peel I get to spend the next week wet sanding to smooth it out. But it's getting there. Also, I am happy to announce that the 428PI motor (w/cj heads) I've owned for around 40 years will be swapped in for extra towing performance.

Looks great Alan!  Speaking as someone who has done quite a few paint jobs, color sanding and buffing is almost always required.  Better orange peel than runs LOL!

Looking good, Alan. Like Jay said, orange peel just requires a little extra sanding.
My friends that do this professionally have both gone to water based now. The stuff turns out like glass and seldom requires much, if any, sanding. Even dirt is less of an issue. The guns and equipment sure ain't cheap though.

Those old sayings are treasure.  My dad had one that he couldn't say anymore in his later years.  It had something to do with "If it was easy ..." and then there would be some reference to "We'd have (people of the non-male gender) doing it!"

We're much too 'woke' to do that kind of kiddin' today. (My parents' families both thought whistling by a woman was un-ladylike. OK, perhaps, for entertainers, but not in the home.)

On another subject, having to do that degree of rust repair in such a location would likely take me three or four months. At least!!

Alan, it looks good, and you know what is there because you did the work.
I would take solid panels with orange peel paint any day of the week over rusted panels......Now, if I could just find ten extra minutes to get MY truck painted.

I got the passenger bed side color sanded today. Just the driver's bed side left and it will be ready for polishing.

Better be careful Alan, if you keep rubbin that truck it will soon be too pretty to haul the grass clippings to the compost heap.
