Hood Scoop
« on: July 29, 2022, 10:20:27 AM »
I recently got a '66 Falcon which I'll probably make into my primary drag car.  The hood is rotten with rust so I'll probably get a fiber glass one from USBody.  They offer a discount on scoops if purchased with the hood.  I've never had a hood with a scoop.  I'll probably need one for the tunnel ram.

The styles I'm considering are the Thunderbolt about 4" high, the Hemi with an open front about 4.5 inches high, and the Aero - a gasser style to me - either 4.5 or 9 inches high.

Would 4 inches give me enough room or do I need to go to the 9 inch aero?

Depends on if you want ram air or not.  Is the price enough cheaper that buying a scoop is viable?  A Falcon looks good with the CJ scoop, but they will not work with tunnel ram.  Will work with tunnel wedge.  Joe-JDC

Same - depends on what you want.  If you're running a tunnel ram, just cut the hood to clear the ram and use a "gasser" scoop like what I use.

Teardrop - single 4 bbl, 16" hole under scoop for cold air induction.  Scoop is from Crites, hood is US Body Source (bought in 1992).  I didn't think they still made any Falcon parts.  Better call.

With a Tunnel Ram on a 351C
No spacers

Carbs sideways with 1/2" spacer to allow for linkage.

With Hood

No spacers, 1:1

351C, Funnelweb 4V, 2" spacer, single 4 bbl

Love your car.

USBody parts still makes the light weight racing hood; I just talked to them last week.

Thanks for you feedback.

Cool.  Kicking myself for not buying a set of fenders from them back in 92.

Is your hood the light weight one?  That's all they make now.
