BK/BJ carbs lesson
« on: May 11, 2013, 06:12:10 PM »
Hi Guys
Ran into something I know nothing about.
BK and BJ carbs.
I've done a little research but can't find anything in depth yet.
Will someone shoot me a link or recommend a book or anything.
Wouldn't mind one of you talking about them IF you feel like typing.
I'm in sponge mode.
Thanks in advance.

That's new info BJ rear BK front.
No choke.
Was there any special metering.
What cfm were they.
Why are they so special/expensive to buy?

The carbs have a different metering that the std small Holley 600s.  Here are some detailed specs.

That info should be in the holley books. Everyone seems to think there`s some voodoo to those carbs. If you read down the replys you`ll see my signature stating that a Holley tech told me they were the same yrs before.  Chipmechanic confirmed what the tech told me. I run a set of 1850-2s on my 63 427 galaxie and it has excellent street manners. I`m running repoped BJ-BKs on my 427 powered 56 F100 and there is a slight difference in manners, the truck has a bigger factory cam than the car. If for some reason you want to run 1850s use -1,-2,-3, The latter ones have been changed, and don`t respond as nicely as the older ones.

Like I posted 600CFM. The metering blocks are 4033. Why are they so expensive.... Those are Factory Carbs and what they go to.

As near as I can tell the real big difference is the postion
of the trunnion on the throttle shaft.
BK upper
BJ lower, it's about 5/8" lower.
And that hole that Mike measured.

Disclaimer: those are not my carbs, I lifted the pics from the spider web.
These carbs have the throttle shafts in the wrong carbs.
You can find these pictures at

My carbs are old and crusty. Like me.

Heres a pretty good TSB on them.

More disclaimer. lol
Even the TSB has some errors.  ::)

Very cool stuff
Thank you gents
I've been studying multi carbs lately as I just purchased a tri power for my Tbird rebuild coming up.
Appreciate your time.

BTW The TSB was a key to a whole new info stream. Thanks Howie.

Do you have the T-Bird specific 3x2 intake? It's different from the Galaxie 3x2 intake, which will not allow the hood to close because the carb bases are slanted, Rod.
