63 galaxie rear end width

Did a search and could not find an answer.
My 63 has a narrowed 56 inch rear in it and I want to put a stock size in.
Does anyone know the width from backing plate to backing plate and the perch measurement on this rear.
Any measurements would help.

Is 64 the same width? If so i can crawl under mine and meassure

Thanks for the offer but the sites that I have done a search shows the 63 to be different then the 64.
I don't know what the difference is but if you order one for a 63 they show a different part number then the 64.

i don't have a housing laying around, but I do have a '63. Pretty tough to measure accurately but It looks to be about 56 1/2.
The outside edge of the perch is 3 1/2 from the inside of the backing plate flange. probably the best thing to do would be to measure a bare housing.

That is a big help. I know it is a pain to crawl under and try to measure a rear in the car.
This gives me an ideal what to order. I know mine has been narrowed in the past but I just don't need to run a 12 inch tire for what I am going to use the car for.
The few posts on the net said 61 inch's but I was sure that was wrong.
Now I can order a housing and know I am going to be close.

My 64 measured the same, although I didn't measure the perches.

I think they are 61 1/2 wide and NEVER measure to the backing plates. Only to the outsides of the axles or outsides of drums. A 2 1/2" brake won't make the rear end any narrower than a 1 3/4" brake but reduces that backing plate measurement. It's like measuring bore size by the inside of the piston skirts.

my measurements were to the outside of the flange not the backing plate.

Yeah, If you haven't got axles the housing flanges can give you an idea on total width adding 5" to that.

 Just trying to keep anyone from making the same mistakes as people in high school....  and having to put fender flares to clear tires that would easily go inside the wheelwells.

And while i'm it narrowing a 68-74 Econoline rear end by using two right side axles will make a rear end so wide you  will need duallie fenders on a Galaxie. A centered-diff 9" has the right side axle 3 " or so longer than the left normally. The "short " side on a 68-74 Econoline is still quite a bit longer than any cars long side.
