Are heads available and affordable?
I have not investigated the availability and cost of heads, be they remanufactured, new, or other.
The shop cost to redo the head is about $2,600, and the shop would be doing this job because I just don't have time or desire for this one....I don't have the camshaft holding tools either.

I took some advice from replies and last night I put in a dose of K-Seal.
We will see if that works...I sure hope it does.
I would like to get two more years out of this car, hopefully getting past this current extra high prices with new and used cars.

This is the worst time, in my driving history, to need a different car.

Again, I want to thank everyone who replied and gave helpful information.

I'll keep you posted about how the K-Seal works.

If the K Seal doesn't work in awhile, I'd drain the system and try again with new coolant and K Seal. Worth a shot.

A few days in and so far things look good for the K-Seal.
I pulled the upper hose....Why does Ford engineer that clamp into such a hard to access space?

Poured in the small bottle of K-Seal, refilled the coolant and ran the engine.

Purging the air has been a bit difficult because I assume if I open the bleeder the K-Seal will treat that like a leak.
I have been carefully purging a bit each day after the engine cools down.

Since the install of the K-Seal there has been no overheating, no loss of coolant, and no bubbles in the coolant.
This "fix" might just get me enough time to locate and purchase a different car.

Then I will sell this car with full disclosure about the head issue and the repair I used.

Thanks again guys, I really appreciate the help.

I will keep you posted about how this K-Seal holds up.

I've had Moroso Ceramic Seal "fix" some pretty decent cracks, as a temporary measure.  If the K-Seal worked, that's pretty good.

Just a pop-in to say things are still holding and working well.
After installing the K-Seal the leak is no longer causing any issues.
No overheating, no air in the system, all other components of the cooling system are working well.
I have been driving this car around since I installed the K-Seal (got a new vehicle for the wife)
and not one single hickup so far.

I will test the coolant for PH and if it is off I will change the coolant and install another small bottle of K-Seal just to be safe.
