650 HP 445?

Do you guys think this is possible?  I would like to build this for a bracket car and get away from spending big money for a wore out 428 or 427 block, not to mention finding these in the first place.  If this seems possible, what would the block mods have to be? Cross bolted mains, etc?  Solid roller cam and head work without going to raised exhaust ports?  Any ideas from you guys?  Trying to avoid going to a 385 Series; it just doesn't look right in a 70 Fastback.

Blair Patrick could , he's hitting 600 plus with street type builds , bracket race would be easy ... 1/2 fill and cross bolts for sure on reliability

I think it would be no problem to hit that horsepower level.  Just off the top of my head, I'd figure on crossbolting the block and hard-blocking it up to the water pump holes.  If you can find a thick block to start with, so much the better.  The 4.25" stroke cast cranks are known good to 700 HP, so if you go with one of those and some good H beam rods, along with forged pistons from a reputable manufacturer, you should be good from the short block side.  Since its a bracket race engine I'd be looking at around 13:1 static compression, with a cam in the 265-275 @ .050" range.  You should get some heads that flow in the 320-330 range at .700" lift on the intake side, and I'd probably go with the 2 1/8" primary Hooker adjustable race headers.  A good single plane like a Victor with a Dominator, or a tunnel wedge with two 660 center squirters, would probably be required.

650 HP out of a 445" engine is less than 1.5 HP per cubic inch, so I think it is definitely do-able.  JMO - Jay

John, have you run that at Bandimere yet?  I recognize that dyno room.  Thanks everyone for the replies, I think I'll stay with an FE in the new car instead of jumping ship to a 385 series. Will start looking for some good 390 cores around here.  I would much rather take a chance scattering a 390 block than anymore 428 blocks and 650 HP will get me where I want to be ET wise here in Denver.  Uncorrected I lost 140 HP in my 448 on the same dyno John used for his 445.

Not yet.  Buttoning up the car in the next few weeks.  It's taken me forever.  I had it dynoed at Greeley Automotive Machine.  Yes, you lose a bunch of HP here in the mile high city!!!

GAM did my 448 and dynode it the first time also.  Hope you have better luck with them then I did.  Mine isn't back together yet either but getting close.  Will run Pro ET some this year.  Love to see that Fairlane when you get it done!

If possible, find a thick mirror 105 block or FT block. Punch it out to a 428, buy the 4.375 stroker crank. Then you'll be around 470 cubes instead of 445... no replacement for cubes!

+1 on the 4.375" crank; the more cubes you've got, the easier the HP target will be...

I decided to settle in at 10-1 on gas with a custom survival hydraulic roller 287 293 234 240 .594 .598 @ 112○.  The heads are Edelbrock Performer RPM which i am going to upgrade with new guides and 5/16 valve stems, I already trashed everything else they came with for beehive springs and cro-mo parts. Other than that an electric water pump, windage tray, electric fuel pump and fan to keep losses down.
