Don't mean to pile on FE4SPDMUSTANG, but if C2SE-B heads are not 406 heads, as you say, then what application are they for?
I've had a couple sets and have have seen several more and the dates on all where in 406 range, beyond any other early HP FE.

Greg: I was told by the one who has seven 406 cars that there was an interim early head. My understanding is that 390HP and a few early 406 cars got them before the C castings became available. The listings I saw in exchange books seem to be confusing because of the 4V-6V listings and seem to be convoluted as to early and late 62-3 heads. What was noted is side-side comparisons of this head and the early 427 LR heads as they are almost identical. The earlier FE's are a out of my wheelhouse a bit. I bought into the C's right. It's just that 11:4 was a problem and it was the reason I sold them and went another direction. Not to mention the never ending exhaust leaks.
I will see if I can get a hold of Jim and share his knowledge directly with the running changes on the 406. It may shed some light being he bought the cars new and that is his passion.

Nobody doubts that the C's were 406 heads and that they were good heads,I just don't buy into your statement that B's weren't 406 which is exactly what your first post stated. Not only were the C2SE-B's and C2SE-C's used on 406's so were later C3AE-C's,and while some of the earlier heads may have been equipped with the spring seat cups if they were meant for a racing application,as I understand it the C3AE-C's were the ones that introduced the larger exhaust and spring seat cups on the normal production line.I have examples of all 3 and they support that, the C2-B's and C's weren't machined or equipped with the cups or larger ex. valve and the C3-C's are.As far as I'm concerned at least in this instance the Mustangtek information is pretty accurate.

I'm getting tired of deleting posts from this thread.  Let me just say again, for the umpteenth time, that a CIVIL TONE is required here.  Complaints about people whining or pointless back and forth arguments that turn nasty are NOT WELCOME here.  I don't want to start banning members, but if this continues, I will  >:( >:(
