I can tell you....It was fear mixed with exitement...and the smell of Kerosene

Cool shot!

Years ago I was learning how to fly gliders (look up Grob G103 glider - fun!).  Anyway, my instructor was teaching me how to soar along a mountain ridge, using the wind to lift you up over the top.   (This was the San Gabriel mountains in the desert north of Los Angeles.)

Suddenly we were shaken by two F-15's flying fast through the canyon right underneath us!  I needed a new pair of shorts when we landed...  The instructor said those guys were from Edwards Air Force Base, out screwing around.  They had to know there was a glider school in the area!

After that, and a crazy incident I watched with a tow plane, I cooled off on the idea of flying gliders...

I had a couple of incidents with planes.

When in basic, on our 20 mile march, they had a jet buss us from the rear, at high speed. You hear a little whine then, the full force!

Jack Erickson, the owner of Erickson Air Crane, collected War Birds. He had just got a Corsair going, you know the gull wing fighter. They had the largest radial engine, ever made. He bussed the hanger, full throttle, at about 200 ft. It made the whole building shake.

Now i remember. When i was a kid the family went to Norway on vacation
one night we set up the tent up on a mountain with some military looking
tower and buildings. The ground was littered with red plastic 7.62 NATO
ammunition both fired and unfired. A goldmine for a boy 10 years old
and i found some old iron cases. Probably some German WW2 flak casings
i must have them at my parents place. Must try to find them and check
what they are
Anyway in the morning when we made a fire to make breakfast a Phantom
plane started buzzing us on looooow height i even took a picture of it.
We were probably in the wrong place ;D ;D

Grew up in Fort Worth.  Ridgmar Mall is across the road from the end of one of the runways at Carswell AFB (Now joint base something).  It was fun to sometimes see an F-16 or two, or maybe a B-52 come off the end of the runway and cross over the west parking lot.  People "not from 'round hee-ya" would total freak.  Seen people duck behind cars.  Coming in to land from the south, you could easy see the pilots sitting in the cockpits, there were that low on approach.
