A couple of Scat crank questions.
« on: October 08, 2019, 08:36:19 PM »
I noticed on my new Scat 428 replacement crankshaft that on two of the rod throws the inside is hollow clear though the journal and the flywheel flange is scalloped on one side. Is this normal? I'm guessing it is but I have never looked one over before.

I have no idea but did they say it was internally balanced?
I'll have to check the back flange of my Ford 428 crank. I do know none of the rod journals are hollow.
The 3 B's may chime in. Barry, Blair, Brent (in alphabetic order)

The stock Ford cranks don't look like that.  I wonder if it is a balance thing, as FE Roadster suggests.  I would contact Scat and ask...

I also think its a balance deal.  The Scat cranks are easier to bring neutral (internal) than are the OEM ones.  I think Scat was trying to allow the crank to go both ways - external or internal - with minimal effort to bridge the gap between the two.
