Better motor mounts for a '62 Galaxie?
« on: May 14, 2019, 09:15:40 AM »
Are there any better options for motor mounts for my '62 Galaxie than the two piece rubber molded ones?  Picture attached of my special "two-piece racing" version I have now...

Polyurethane?  Might be a bit more noticeable feeling in the car?
Or just another stock one and a strap.  I run stock stuff on my two hot rods, both with turnbuckles to keep things from tearing apart.

I made a set of solid mounts for my black car many years ago.  Got tired of the "buzz" shake from being solid mounted.  Put stock ones back in with turnbuckle.  I just went a tab on the frame rail and hook turnbuckle to the front drivers head accy bolt hole.

Dano, What I've done with broken motor mounts is to use "Yellow Death" [3M adhesive] to glue the 2 pieces together then drilling the mount and using a 5/16" flat head thru bolt with a thin nut, countersunk bolting the now one piece m.m. to assure it stays together. I've done this on the old style "C" shaped 2 bolt mounts and the later style 3 bolt flat mounts. Works every time and I've never had one fail. 2 1/4" thru-bolts will work just as good too.

I have never liked the "look" of that style of mount. Just doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy.

I'm not in love with this style of mount, but it's what I've got to work with in this car.  I'll order up a new set and try pinning them and while the motor is out I can add a tab on the frame rail for a strap/turnbuckle mount should I need that.  Thanks for the info.
