C-6 Bench Question

Finished rebuilding my C6 for the old truck. Air checks were good, clearances good, no issues with rebuild, etc.
My question is, should I be able to turn the yoke by hand in BOTH directions? It is on the bench will turn one way but not the other.  I would think this is possibly in relation to the one way rear sprag and no fluid moving through the system.  However, being the first one I have rebuilt, I wanted to ask those that have done it.  I don't want to move forward if there is an issue that can be addressed now. ???

yes it should , just like neutral , sounds like your Band is too tight

Ill tell a story on myself.

First time rebuilding c6 it was completely worn out but (somehow) still worked, with a cheap rebuild kit and parts from a spare trans I took my time double and triple checking everything and swapped many better parts from the spare. Also did installed a shift kit in the VB. I was confident I had done well but terrified I messed it up at the same time. Get everything in the truck topped it off with fluid, drop it in gear and nothing.. I was devastated it wouldn't do anything! Worst fear come true.

All it was is I had the band over tightened. I had planned on doing this final step once in the truck and forgot. It clicked in my head few days later, I ran out adjusted it jumped in and took off, trans worked flawlessly. So moral of the story is check the band as mentioned.

  I should be difficult to turn in one direction but it "should" turn.

I use trans go’s method of setting band
Turn output while tightening band. Tighten until you can’t turn it, and back off, until it just turns, loosen another 1/4 turn.
(I think it was 1/4, I’ll have to check my notes)

Edited. Yup. Just like that. Never had a problem. And yes, it’ll freewheel in one direction.

It turns both directions. One direction is harder than the other. You may need some leverage to turn it, like vise grips or channel locks. For band adjustment I go either 1-1/2---to--2 turns off of snug.

Thank you all. I went out in the shop last night, loosened it up about 2 turns(critical thinking made me think I torqued it properly but did not back if off). Presto, all seems legit now.
Hopefully I get my son's truck done and out of the way this week so I can move the Highboy in and finally start trying to finish this never ending story.
I am ready to hear the 445 run again!
