The Ruger I received on my 16th birthday now has an Intrafuse stock and a couple other things installed (grenade launcher, flamethrower). Here in the desert, the primary yard pest is the gopher. One day I popped some Aguila subs into it, and sighted in on a particularly annoying, grinning varmint about 40 feet off the front porch. Every time I squeezed, he ducked by the time the round got to him. I swear he was zoned in on my finger. Not only that, he ascertained that I was using a short mag, and when the 10th round went for naught, he jumped out of the burrow, picked up two bullets out of the dirt, sighted on me, checked the air for cross currents, and flung them back.

You can imagine I was not prepared for a firefight with a damn prairie dog. I could not defend. I spent two weeks in the hospital with life-threatening injuries to my neck and chest. While I did pull through, I had to endure the embarrassment from the hospital staff snickering every time they came into my room.

True story, I swear. Lots safer shooting at paper targets. Lesson learned.

Oh, they weren't snickering at your wounds.

Come to think of it, the nurses were laughing outright during my sponge baths. Do you think they were telling me something?

Here is my 1890

And the ammo that was with the rifle.  according to what i was told this box was bought with the gun in 1907
i think it was, by a Swede that was moving home from USA . I think it is blackpowder, smokes like that at least

And the Anschutz

My father have a Mauser 22LR from 36 or 38 something that looks like a K98 just smaller.
They made them for Hitler jugend and such to train with. The one he have is the luxus sporter version with
a stock much like the Anschuts with a Ajax or Ajack something scope that too is a verry accurate rifle

Very nice!  The Annies shoot well but the stocks tend to be so pretty that I get worried about scratching them up.  I was able to find an aluminum stock for one but no one makes an aluminum or composite stock for the other Annie.

Yes my have very nice straight grained wood. With just a few
small scratches from handling. Probably i can polish them out.
Blued Steel and valnut trigger my buttons ;D bad lightning on
the pic so the bluing looks almost as parkerized but in daylight
it is a really deep blue tone and the wood more reddish

The ammo is hard to get in Sweden not that i will take it out
hunting In the snow, or start shooting it like crazy but a couple of boxes
so i could sight it in would be nice
I understand it is a common gun in USA but most of them is
Rode hard and put away wet as you say, so they are rare in
nice condition

Wow Earl,
That rifle of yours doesn't look anything like my 10/22.

I've got a Model 94 Winchester lever action in 22LR...but my tack-driver of the bunch is an old Ithaca single shot my dad bought for me when I was 14...out of the Sears mail order catalog.

One thing most people don't notice is the whitetail near the target in the first photo.  This happened quite a few times where I have to stop shooting and chase the deer away.  Same thing with all the turkeys around here.

I thought that was another target for bow and arrow. There's still a few guys around here that like to hunt that way.

Heo, 22 ammo is the most common and cheapest in the U.S., so that's a big reason why they're so popular. But about 2-3 years ago, you couldn't find a box if your life depended on it. Several reasons why that happened, but they were non-existent for about a year. I didn't have that issue because I make sure that I'll never run out of ammo, even if the zombie apocalypse hits ;D

Yeah, this 10/22 doesn't have one original Ruger part.  Not even one screw.

I think my most accurate .22 is my 1727 Annie from the Anschutz Custom Shop.  But it's difficult to shoot consistent groups because of the rounded and skinny forend of the German stock.  I wish someone made a good aluminum or composite stock for it.  One company makes a laminate wood stock for it but I don't like the looks of it.

Doug 22LR is no problem here, i can buy a truckload if i want to.  Its the 22WRF thats hard to get to the 1890
I thought about buying a couple of boxes when i was over there but 150$ for carrying it in a special compartment
on the plane back. And all the sweet talking i had to do to get the strokerkit in the suitcases with me and through
the Customs, nahhh.... ;D ;D

About that single shot Ithaca, Here we had Husqvarna cheap single shots with outstanding accurancy.
Everyone of my grandfathers generation had one, they used them with 22 short during the depression when it was
hard to get a job, to hunt squirrels for the skin. They shot them in the eye to not put a hole in the skinn.
A good hunter could earn a weeks salary in a day hunting squirrels

Earl, that's a nice scope. And that bull/varmint/target barrel looks pretty darned stout! I'm a big fan of the Butler Creek flip up caps also. I have them on 2 scopes. Older Ruger 10/22's are pretty nice guns and can be made to be pretty accurate. New ones are pretty much junk though. I'm a big Ruger fan, but mostly of just their handguns.

I have a couple .22 rifles.  Been so long, can't recall what they are??  That's bad.  One is single shot, Ranger maybe?  Uncle gave it to me when I was like 10 yrs old.

I'm more into pistols.  I did just purchase a Ruger Stainless single 10 .22 revolver.  Saw them back when they were only single 6.  They increased the capacity.  Really nice, old school looking revolver.  Pretty accurate too.

Can't plink at home and don't make enough time to go to ranges around the area.
