Alright, I just called McLeod to get this all straightened out (slow day at work  ;D).

The problem with the 1-3/8" input transmissions is the collar around the input shaft is roughly 1-3/4" around and the diaphragm fingers are roughly 1-1/2" apart. So the collar interferes with the diaphragm fingers. They tell you to run a hydraulic throwout bearing so you can shave the collar back and retrofit the hydraulic throwout bearing to the transmission.

The modification that McLeod did in my case was shave the last bit of each finger off. They were able to do this because the high point of each finger was still maintained once the fingers were clearanced back.

This is still a custom order scenario, they do not have a part number for an RST or RXT with the fingers shaved back in this same fashion.

So if they modify the fingers can you run standard T/O or must there still be a commitment to hydraulic? Either way it is ridiculous IMO.

Yes, when they modify the fingers, it allows you to fit the input shaft collar through, which holds a standard throwout bearing. I'm not sure how happy McLeod is to offer the service to people. We just happened to run into one of their engineers at SEMA and BS'ed with him for a while and he kind of took it on as a personal challenge.

Alright, good to know. So there could be a McLeod dual disc in my future after all provided they would “tune” a cover plate for me.
Thanks,
