There are certainly better options (and more expensive) for C6's these days but for what it's worth back in the late 90's I drag raced a Ger trans breaked TCI C6 for a couple years (10.60 et) then stuck a streetable valve body in it and stuck it in a truck for another couple years. That's been about 20 years ago, can't say what they may be like now.

Building a c-6 isn't hard to do for 600hp.Why don't you find a local reputable trans shop to do this for you ?A core from a later 70s pickup truck.Make sure to use a direct (third) clutch drum that holds five clutches the same for forward .and a good valve body kit from transgo .TCI is just to hit or miss .Someone local would be there if you experience problems or need a freshen up .They do hold up really well in a drag environment. If you are in need of a trans brake not many GOOD options .Frank Merkl ha s the best .You can find him on the 429-460 forum he might build a c-6 for you contact him there .Drew has a buildup for c-6s in the members projects section look it up .Doug

photobucket killed my thread so I reposted it on my page:

I'm certainly not 600hp, more like 525, but I used an ATI flexplate which is way overkill for my usage.  The transmission is still excellent many years, and serious abuse later.

I just installed a brand new TCI C6 behind a brand new 390 in an F100. I've fired it up, topped off the fluid and cycled it through the gears on jackstands multiple times.

There is 1 leak...and the fluid is RED!!! C'mon, man! Can't tell yet if it's the pan or the tail shaft housing.

I'll also add that the generic shift arm didn't hold well.

I think there are better options.

UPDATE

I have 2 leaks on my new build!

The transmission is also leaking at the shift lever. I will never buy another. Apparently the Comp Cams takeover hasn't done anything for their quality.

On a positive note, I have zero oil leaks on the FE, and I believe that's a bold statement. 8)

I have a TCI trans and 3000 stall bought one in 1987, raced it till 1996 every weekend. Car was off the road for 18 years when I got it back together, drove it on the street for about 1000 miles and brought it to 1/8 mile track and took off in second gear after second pass and it started doing funny things like down shifting whenever it wanted to and sometimes not shifting right and with a new motor
didn’t want to take any chances so I ordered a new one. Got a new one and was fine for two weeks
And started to take some time to go into gear and had a shift selector gasket leak, started to shift funny so I called and they told me to send it back and they would send me another one. They also sent me a different converter. The salesman was a nice guy also just bought a 390 fastback mustang so I think that helped my case. The new tranny that they sent seemed to be good, about 800-1000
Miles in 2 years and about 20 1/8 mile passes and 10 1/4 mile passes at the FE Reunion.  Also ,without doing nothing else got 3.6 tenths faster in the 1/8 mile times. Now it did have another shift selector leak this time it didn’t even have a gasket  in it but it did come with two in a bag, I put it in and it don’t leak. So you be the judge. Drew told me to rebuild it myself but didn’t want to take a chance even though I’m sure I could do it. One thing I can say is if this tranny ever goes again I will be going c-4.

If you think getting a 4 speed/clutch setup for 600hp is easier than building a c6........

Good luck.
