1971 Mustang FB rear spoiler adjustment
« on: March 12, 2018, 10:43:48 AM »
Does anybody know what Ford set them at ??.. There is quite a bit of adjustment and this Car came in pointed down in the back/rear following roof line and looks funny , is there a recommended base line setting ?? does it even work or just decoration and not matter  ?? This car does see 130 plus mph on occasion

thanks , Eric

Not sure about the '71-'73 Mustangs, but from what I've seen from factory photos of the '69 and '70 Mustangs, the angle was set pretty much at level, or parallel to the body of the car. From the factory, I think they're pretty much for looks, but they would have an effect at higher speeds. Whether or not you'd notice it is debatable.

Lay it flat so your beer doesn't fall off it, that's they way I was told for my 73. It looks good that way also.

I had a '73 that was never adj. & it was flat with body not the roof. And yes it was an excellent cup holder.

If you are taking about that fibreglass "wing" thats on the trunk
we were not alowed to have them in sweden beacuse if you hit
someone and they rolled and bounced over the roof that wing
would hurt them ::) But  having a roof rack with a bunch of
pitchforks sticking out was ok :(

google pictures are all over so I adjusted it level for now unless some solid data comes in , you would think it does something with all that adjustment available , the car has a nice front spoiler too

This setting won't work on your '71 since neither Ford factory teams nor any independent teams raced it in series like the Trans-Am as Dearborn quit racing. My '70 Mach 1's though is set exactly like the all-winning '70 teams that cleaned everybody's clock in the same year. And it is down quite a bit in front level. High speed stability is great btw.

Lemme' see if I can locate a source from some folks who did and do race your year.........

Dark Horse Racing: http://www.darkhorseracing.net/aix_71_mustang.htm

Be sure to look around the site. Also, Google the car as many other pics of the '71 on track and running the OEM rear spoiler should still be around. Btw, they were hitting 170+ on most longer RR tracks! Fun times!

Thanks guys , I think I'll tilt the front down for now and let the customer have the final say , motor rev's to 7K along with 3.00 gear and 29 tall tire ,  it's a highway bruiser for sure
