Aftermarket 428 cranks for BBC rods
« on: June 24, 2017, 03:45:13 PM »
DSC lists a Scat 428 crank and POP has a steel RPM 428 crank with the BBC rod journals.  The prices are the same.  Is one any better than the other?

I bet the Scat is FE Rod size unless it's custom

That is correct.....

The Scat crank is a standard FE rod journal.  The RPM piece is a BBC rod journal.

I think garyv may have an RPM 3.980" crank with BBC journals for sale....

Who is garyv?

Brent, do you carry any 428 cranks with the BBC journals?

Yes sir, I do.

garyv is a member here and a customer of mine.  On the first and second iteration of his Tunnel Port build, we used an RPM 3.980" crank with BBC rod journals.  We switched to a Scat on the last iteration so he has the crank sitting around.  If you would be interested in one with dyno time only, I'll point him to this thread.

That would be great.  Otherwise I'll contact you to get a crank from you.  Are these cranks ready to go or do they need some work first?  Thanks!

Afret I do have a 3.98 steel RPM crank like Brent said but I think I will hang onto it for now.. If I didn't already have a new
set of Diamond forged 4.25 bore pistons to use with it I would let it go.  I have a nice set of HR heads, intake and a side oiler
block and the plan is to build this at some point.  Honestly I'd rather have a 4.25 stroke crank but can't use it with these pistons.
Call Brent up and let him grab you a new one.
Sorry I can't help you out.

They always need work.  Most of the time they are "big" and have belly and taper.  It is usually pretty easy to get 3.997 stroke and good sizes at .010 under on the rods.  The mains sometimes are correctable at .001 under.  I use the RPM cranks often and have never had any issues with them.  They just need a tune up for size and journal quality.

I have one here in the box that I would send along at a pretty fair price - - from a build that changed directions
