68 Fairlane w 427 brought to life (soon..)..
« on: August 05, 2012, 05:36:51 PM »
68 fairlane sold new in Sweden with 302 and C4
Built into racecar in 74 with cage, ladderbars and coilovers.Car was run in Modified standard here in sweden during the late seventies,(this was before we got stock and superstock classes here).
First with 390 and C6 for a year and then 428 and 4-spd.
New owner in 81 put a 427 MR with Prostock engineering intake and dual 1050 dominators in it.
Heads and intake comes from a serious racer who supposedly did 10,5sec 196km/h in a 67 Mustang on a 427 w aluminum rods pro stock engineering rockers and a roller cam from general kinetics (i got the old cataloge were they underlined the .727 lift and 316/328 dur)..
Heads and intake were modified by a legendary engine guy here in Sweden back in 79..He is no longer with us but was nicknamed "Grottis" and has a real good reputation..
New owner opted for a brand new 427SO shortblock back in 81 w trw L2244 pistons and lemans rods and 427 $ crank and that is what i got..

I have had my eyes on this for 15 years and picked it up last year.
Car has been sitting since 85 and needs alot.I am thinking Dove/comp HD rockers and i already got a wild cam from a local Superstock racer that im gonna try first..

Being on a budget im gonna try to get the car back on the track with what i got, main concerns are how to set up oiling and keep bottom end alive..
Any inputs are welcome.
Thanks
Stefan
And btw awesome forum!!thanks

I'm biased but I'll say it........ cool car.

Funny how clean that front bumper still looks.  I hope the underside isn't too bad.

Very nice! It must have been a really strong FE to have run dual Holley Dominators on a custom tunnel ram intake in the past. So, will you show us progress pictures of the body/engine being restored?

I think it must have been a serious engine back in the seveenties.
I will post occasionally when something happens but it wont be Jay B-speed on this project..:-)
Hopefully i get some pointers on the way, stiil wondering about the cambearings in a sideoiler, is it best to groove the journal on 2 and 4 in case the bearing moves?
Or get oil through the pushrods??
Or leave as it was originally designed..

Nice that someone seen the car back then and remembers it.
I know previous owner had issues, first with valvetrain, then broke the clutch, then transmission and finally broke the 31-spline axles and then the car got parked under a tarp from about 85 til last december when i pulled it home..
Also car was partially disassembled before it got parked and alot of stuff is missing..
Anyone got a pedal assembly for sale?? :-)
