3.5" Stroke Build
« on: January 21, 2017, 12:18:33 AM »
Picked up a complete 352 last night to be the base of this build.  The intention with this build is to put money where it is needed but for the most part be a budget build except for the dual quad eye candy.  ;-)

The current plan is to run a minimum bore on the block, stock 3.5" crank, stock heads with a home port job.  Where I intend on spending money is the pistons and rods (gave up the idea of using stock rods), roller cam, and valve train.

Next to come, clean up, disassembly, and measuring the bores and mains in the block and seeing what we've got.

After 2 days of rain I finally got a break to get the engine unloaded and put on a stand.  The cylinders look great, hopefully get the engine torn down this week, leaving town at the end of the week so probably won't get the engine measured until next week.

That a 65 Galaxie engine?  You don't see that early stamped steel pulley that often.

Why yes it is, and I said the same thing, I've only seen the cast iron one.

I'm happy with the 352 in my F250. It is stouter of idle than I expected. Starting out with a good short block made a difference, mine only had 117,000 miles and lead a clean life. The OEM pistons are .010-.013 taller than aftermarket and do not have valve reliefs.

Finally got some time to get started on tear down.  All the fluids are drained, heads and most of the front dress are off.  So far everything looks as good as I remember.  Probably won't get back to it until this weekend at which time I'll get the balancer, timing cover, gears, and cam out.  If I have time I'll get the crank and pistons out.

Got another chance to work on the engine tear down tonight.  Pistons came out the top pretty easy so there probably isn't a lot of ring ridge.  Didn't get the crank out yet.
