Service block
« on: June 01, 2016, 08:05:16 PM »
I got taking apart what was a 390 standard bore out of a 72 highboy. Heard it run and all that. I think it's a service block after talking to a friend of mine. To the engine builders in here is this thing worth my time or move on.  My plan was pump gas motor for a street car. I attached a pic. I can't figure it out it is not in my books.

Might want to try a better focused pic, JYI, my 428 started as a D4TE service block.

If it's a decent block, room to bore, no cracks or leaks and re build able then I don't see any reason not to use it for your street application. No matter what the numbers are.

The pic a bit smaller.
It's got two dots so 70's, but tough call on the exact number.
Zero maybe?
Blue stuff?

that's way better pic thanks.  but that is exactly the numbers that are on their.   I think it is a 1970 because the bearings all have that date on them for what that's worth.  that blue stuff is the ford blue engine paint I think melted when I cleaned off the numbers with brake cleaner.   in my opinion I think its a 360 when I seen bearings  and looked up part numbers.  it even has 360 stamped on the side of the pistons right next to the piston pin that I have never seen before either. it does have the reinforcing ribs on it on the 2-3-4 mains which most have anyway.  I am going to take to local shop for cleanup and a magnuflux before I send it out.

If I recall the 360 I bought  had unique rods in them. Not near as beefy as regular FE rods

The 2 dots under the # started in 1969 and carried on through the 70's....

ok the 2 dots I did not know that.  learned something new today.   I think its a 1970 block,  reason being all the main bearings were dated 4 of 1970 and all of the rod bearings were 10 of 1969 so imo it should be a 1970.  not that it matters it is just going in a street car.   just waiting for the magnaflux and sonic check before I send it out.  cross my fingers
