427 SOHC Valve Clearances
« on: April 18, 2012, 06:40:50 AM »
Hey all, I have to adjust the valve clearances on my bosses 427 SOHC but he doesn't know what the lash should be. He thinks it has a set of old Crane "Nitro" cams in it. If anybody could please give me a ballpark lash setting it would be a great help.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Bart -

Start with .015" on the intake and .025" on the exhaust.

That's the typical old-school setting.  Reference here from Gessford Machine's website:  http://www.gessford.com/images/sohc_info.htm

Sounds like you have a very cool boss  8)

The Crane nitro grind cams I have specify .015"/.025" like Bill says.  My new Comp Cams specify .020"/.020".
